HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-05-11M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday May llth,1931 Pursuant to adjournment of May 5th, the Council met at 7:30 PM and was called to order by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present: Butcher, Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad Councilmen absent : None The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Judge, Chief of Police, City Treasurer and City Clerk and on motion by Butcher seconded by Huston same were approved as read. Bait Con-. The application of Morrison and Dulaney for bait con- cession cession was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee. On motion by Huston seconded by King the offer of Ed Plumbing change Memorial Manning to substitute heater and install new toilet in the Hall Memorial Hall as per his estimate was approved and the work ordered done, in accordance with recommendations of the Building Committee.. On motion by Butcher'seconded by Stevens the application Dance Hall of Ray R Richards to conduct dances in the Huntington Beach Company's dance hall on the beach front was approved. Decorating Auditorium Coast Assn. advertising Boat Landing Broken water main Wesley Ave. Domestic f ater Furniture and furnishings Memorial Hall The matter of additional painting and decorating the auditorium and stage portion of the Municipal Hall was referred to the Council as a committee of the whole to investigate and power to act. The matter of assisting the Orange County Coast Asso- ciation in its proposed advertising campaign was on motion by Stevens seconded by Huston referred to the Music and promotion Committee with power to act after discussion with the City's advertising agent Osborn. Mr D M Campbell asked whether or not the City Council was prepared to act on his application for permission to use the municipal pier as a boat landing. He was informed that no action could be taken before May 25th, pending further legal advise. St Supt Wirth advised the Council that nothing had been done by the American States Water Service Cc .toward..`repairing leak in water main located in the center of Wesley Ave near 17th St. The City Clerk was directed to communicate by telephone with the water company and arrange a date for the manager of the water company to meet with the Council and discuss the drinking water situation. On motion by Butcher seconded by King the City Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for furnishing.the Memorial Hall I w' 1 1 with appropriate furniture, carpets and drapery. Bids to be opened and examined 7:30 PM May 25th. 6�-. - MIN07-eS May i/, /9'�y 53 Life Guard On motion by King seconded by Butcher the Life Guard was placed under jurisdiction of the Fire Department. Bond The Surety Bond of the Acme Eledtric Company was approved and accepted on motion by King seconded by Butcher. Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.. Mayor Conrad•announc•ed, that due to the death of City Appointment of Treasurer Joseph Vavra it was the duty of the Council to appoint City Treasurer a successor, whereupon the name of Harvey S Young was offered and on motion by King seconded by Huston, Harvey S Young was appointed City Treasurer to serve the unexpired term. The City 1�. Clerk then administered the oath of office to Mr Young. On motion by Butcher seconded by King the Vngineering Pier Bldgs. Department was authorized and directed to proceed with construction of pier structures on a time and material basis. The Beach and_Pier Committee were authorized to grant Bait Concession temporary live bait concession for pier Tee No 4 on motion by Huston seconded by King. On motion by"Butcher seconded by King the Fire Chief was Ixtra Life Guards given authority,to employ additional life guards on Sundays and holidays up until labor Day, 1931, at the rate of $5.00 per day wages each.
