HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-06-0160 M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday June lst, 1931 The Council met in regular session, and was called to order at 7:30 PM by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present; Conrad, Butcher, Huston, Stevens, King Councilmen absent; None Mrs L R Ridenour addressed the Council relative to standard, Yrs Ridenour of morals in Huntington Beach and asked the-C:ouncills support in an effort to bring about a higher standard. She was informed by the mayor that the Council would lend its support. The application of Roy K Larson for license to operate License lunch counter at concession #12 beach front was on motion by Butcher seconded by King, approved. The application of Crude Oil Company to install gasoline Gasoline pump in Block 112 was approved on motion by King seconded by Station Huston. On motion by King seconded by Huston, St Suet Wirth was St Light directed to have light installed on Alabama between Baltimore and Chicago Streets. F F Hume was transferred to general pay roll salary $165.00 per month on motion by King seconded by Butcher. On motion by Huston seconded by King the City Clerk Floors was authorized to employ Kelley Roofing Co. to waterproof Memorial Hall floors in Memorial Hall as follows, Ladies Lounge lobby and Committee room, work to be done under supervision of the Architects at a, cost not to exceed $lL[8.00. On motion by Huston seconded by Stevens the City Clerk Kitchen was authorized to employ Barker Bros. of Los Angelesto floor install Johns-1.1a.nville composition floor covering on floor of kitchen and adjoining hallway of Mlemor,al Hall at their bid of $ 107.00, work to be done under the supervision of Architect Schilling & Schilling. The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, Reports *City Clerk, City Judge, Chief of Police and Supt of Streets and Asst. Engineer, and on motion by King seconded by Butcher same were accented and ordered filed. C E Arnold made verbal application to the Council to Pier permit sell sandwiches and soft drinks on the pier. Matter re- ferred to Beach and Pier Committee. T C Vincent, Iffharfinger informed the Council that Wh.arfinger live bait concessions on the pier were not sanitary-, also asked if he was to be in charge of the pier at all times. ar,. JuNc. He was informed that matter of concessions would be looked into, and that the wharfinger was in full charge of the pier and answerable to the City Council only. Adv. Agent Osborne Informed the Council that it was too late to pre— Adv. pare advertisement for the Anaheim Bulletin, also that he did not deem it advisable to advertise in that or similar mediums, whereupon on motion by King seconded by Huston the request of the Anaheim Bulletin was denied. On motion by King seconded by Stevens an appropriation of $100.00 Pistol was allowed the Chief of Police for the purpose of providing a. pistol Tlub range for use of the police department. Councilman Stevens informed the Council that he was not yet ready ,.* Pier Ord. to furnish copy of Long Beach Ordinance regulating use of Municipal Pier. The City Attorney was directed to draft contract with Chester Pier Cont- Manges covering live bait concession, the City to receive $25.00 ner Tact month rental and Chester Manges to receive a salary of $10.00 per month for services as Assistant Wharfinger under 4harfinger Vincent. On motion by Butcher seconded by King the offer of T B Talbert �4 T B Talbert et al to sell the City portion of lots 1,2 and 3 Block 4o4 was lots rejected at the present. Supt of Streets Wirth was directed to notify Geo King, owner of Derrick Black Cat Well in writing that premises be put in safe condition by 5:30 PM Monday June 15th or derrick would be dismantled. $500.00 On motion by King seconded by Stevens an appropriation of O.C. Coast $500.00 was made to the Orange County Coast Association for Assn. advertising Orange County Coast and Huntington Beach, said amount to be paid after July lst, 1931. Wharfinger Vincent advised against the installation of a Spring spring board on the pier, stating that it was dangerous for Board ordinary swimmers to use it. 42r Beatty informed the Council that he had never known of an accident and urged the installation of a board. Matter referred to the Beach and Pier Committee and Supt of Streets Wirth to investigate and report next meeting. Councilman Stevens urged the Council to take action on Transformer installation of an electric transformer on the pier. Matter • on -pier referred to Beach and Pier Committee and St. Supt. On motion by King seconded by Butcher the St Supt was directed •� Pier to install drinking fountain on shore end of pier and two underneath Fountains the pier entrance. RESO 648 The Clerk read Resolution No 648 fixing certain salaries,and on o motion by King seconded by Butcher, Resolution No 648 was passed and y adopted by the following vote: Ayes Councilmen Butcher,Huston, Stevens,King,Conrad, Noes, Councilmen None. Demands approved by the Finance Committee were of dered paid on motion by Stevens seconded by Huston. The Council adjourned until 7:30 PM Miionday June 15th on motion by Butcher seconded by King.
