HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-07-1769 1 -T I -4 M I N U T E S Friday July 17th, 1931 pursuant to adjournment of Monday July 6th, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 PY by Biayor* Conrad. Councilmen present: Conrad, Butcher, King, Huston Councilmen absent : Stevens. Main St. Asst. Engr. Overmyer reported that the Main St. bottle neck Bottle Neck improvement was provided for in the County 1931-32 budget. Pursuant to request of Chairman Bowen of the Legion House Committee, the Clerk informed the Council that the Legion Post desired the City to employ Jas be Guelle as janitor and watchman Watchman Legion Hall. to be on duty daily at the legion hall from 5:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. at a monthly salary of 950.00 per month. On motion by Huston seconded by King the requeet was granted for a period of three months from date or• to October 17th with the understanding that Mr De Guelle assist the City Janitor in keeping both up and down—stairs.in order during that time. At the end of three months period the matter to receive the attention of the Council. The Council agreed unanimously to employ the Huntington Orchestra Beach Orchestra for the Memorial Hall dedication services on l8th July 16th at a cost of $95.00 O.rdinLnce No ,\344 which received its first reading on Ord. #344 July 6th, was brought up and amended at this time, whereupon the Clerk read. same as amended. On motion by Butcher.seconded by King the Council voted c to employ Harvey Walker and Chester Manger 6,t the salary of Pier Astt. Wharfingers $10.00 per month each to act as assistants to and to work under the instructions of the City Wharfinger. Both to serve at th:e pleasure of the City Council. The Supt. of Streets informed the Council that Main Street is in good condition and recommended that the one year guarantee Main St bond of V R Dennis Construction Company be cancelled, whereupon the Clerk presented and read Resolution No 652 and on motion by Reso , #652 Butcher seconded by King same was passed and.adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Butcher, Huston, King, Conrad Noes, Councilmen None Absent, Councilmen Stevens. 9 On motion. by Huston seconded by Butcher, demands approved Demands by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. WA- The Council was informed by the Supt. of Streets that Garbage the present garbage disposal contract would expire Sept llth ' • Contract and that advertisement for bids should be authorized at the August 3rd meeting. Councilman King reported that all water now being used Water by the City was coming from the American States Water Service Company's new'well at the rate of 600 gallons per minute, and that an analyses showed the water to be 100% pure. License Ord #345 The Clerk gave License Ordinance No. 345 its first reading at this time. Attorney Blodget informed the Council that the matter of Claim of Automobile Club of Southern California account Wiener Auto Accident claim automobile accident Marie J 'Wiener was closed pending �- further action of the Automobile Club. On motion by King seconded by,Hustgn, City. -".Attorney Attorneys Blodget was given authority to employ Attorney Ray Beach Front Overacker as an associate"- in the case now pending City of Huntington Beach vs Huntington Beach Company, Pacific Electric Railway Company, and Standard, Oil Company. At the suggestion of Attorney Blodget Councilman Butcher Atty. Fees moved that the matter of attorney fees for Attorneys Blodget and Overaker be.decided upon by a board of arbitration com- . posed of three members of the 0 C Bench and Bar, one to be chosen by the City Council, one by Attorney Blodget and one by the two so chosen. Yotion seconded by Huston, put and r unanimously carried. Pier Asst. Engineer Overmyer informed the Council. that buildings and improvements on the municipal pier would be completed about July 21st.
