City Hall, Nov . ,,, 1931.
In the absence of Mayor Conrad the regular meeting
of the Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by the
City Clerk.
Chairman pro-tem On motion by Councilman King seconded by Councilman
Stevens Councilman Butcher was appointed chairman protein.
Stevens on Finance The chair appointed Councilman Stevens on the
Committee finance committee.
Report on work on The clerk read a letter from County Engineer Nat
Hampshire Ave. Neff to the effect that the County Supervisors had made
no immediate provisions for the improvement of their part
of Hampshire Avenue but that it was possible that work
might be started sometime the first part of next year.
Janitor service The -American Legion presented a written request
Legion Hall to the Council that janitor service in the Legion Hall
be continued and on motion by Huston seconded by Stevens
the request was granted for a period of three months
beginning November first.
Monthly reports
This being the date set by the council for hearing protests
against the Street Superintendents assessment on properties
affected by the improvement of Crest Avenue, the Clerk informed the
Council that no written or verbal protests had been filed or reoeived,
The mayor then asked if any one in the audience desired to be
heard, there being none the Clerk presented and read Resolution
number 6595.

ordering warrants on improvement of Crest Avenue. On
motion by King seconded by Stevens Resolution No. 658
was passed and adopted by the following votes:
AYES: Councilmen Huston, Stevens, King, Butcher.
NOES: None. .
ABSENT: Councilman Conrad.
Parking sign for The City Clerk was directed to bill the Huntington
High School Beach High School for nine two hour signs and posts in
the amount of $31.50, these were signs ordered by the
High School to be placed in front of the High School
building on Main Street.
Salary of Matter of salary for J. T. Africa deferred until
J. T. Africa next meeting.
Bids for painting On motion by King seconded by Huston the City Clerk
outside City Tull.
was directed to advertise for bids for painting the outside
of the City Hall building, work to be done in accordance
with specifications to be prepared by the City Engineer.
Bids to be opened and examined at 10:00 A.M.November 23, 1R31.

motion by King seconded by Stevens Resolution No. 658

Water mains under Superintendent of Street Wirth informed the Council
Wesley Ave. that the American States Water Service Company had
promised to start renewal of water mains under Wesley
Avenue not later than Wednesday of this week. Attorney
Blodget informed the Council that he had asked the Pater
Company to stand the expense of repairing damaged
pavement.
City not liable Attorney Blodget informed the Council that upon in —

Ocean on account of an accident which occurred at 23rd and
Ocean and that he had so informed Mr. Hiller and
Attorney Thedieck.
Armistice Day Judge C. P. Patton addressee) the Council on behalf
float of the Chamber of Commerce relative to a float to be
entered by the City in the Armistice Day parade at Santa
Ana and stated that $100.00 mould cover the expense of
preparing the float. Whereupon motion by Stevens seconded
by Huston, the matter was referred to the Music and Pro—
motion committee with power to act provided the expenditure
should not exceed $100.00.
Derricks Superintendent of Streets Wirth informed the Council
that a number of dangerous derricks had been posted and
that time for action by the owners would be up November 22d.
He.also stated that some of the owners had promised to make
immediate repairs.
Ea.stside Rater Councilman King informed the Council that water lines
lines on the Eastside were inadequate for proper fire protection.
The lines being only 2, 3 and 4 inch size. On motion by
King seconded by Stevens the matter was referred to the
Fire Chief and the Engineer Department with the request that
they investigate and report back at the next meeting.
Shot Gun Squad to On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston the Police and
have new Essex
Fire Committee were directed to confer with the Chief of
Police and request that the new Essex car be turned over to
the Shot Gun Squad for their use.
On motion by Huston seconded by King demands approved
Demands ordered
Paid by the Finance Committee were accepted and ordered paid.
On motion by Stevens seconded by King the Council
adjourned until 10:00 A.M. November 16th.
