Pursuant to adjournment of November 23d the Council met and was called to order at 10:00 o'clock A.M. by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present: Conrad, Butcher, Huston, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent: None Beach Front The Clerk presented and read a letter from Attorney Max Felix of the Standard Oil Company and Huntington Beach Company in which he stated. that his clients in the beach front suit would welcome a meeting with the Huntington Beach City Council and a representative of the American Legion Joseph Rodman Post, and that three to four days was ample notice for fixing the date -,. of meeting. Meeting On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston the City Clerk was Dec. 3rd. 2 P.M. directed to notify Mr. Felix that the Council and Legion repre- sentative would meet with representatives of the Standard Oil Company, Huntington Beach Company, Pacific Electric Company and Chemical Trust Company;in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, Huntington Beach,on Thursday December 3rd at the hour of 2:00 o'clock P.M. Notice to be by telegram to Mr. Felix. Hand rail On ;notion by King seconded by Butcher the recommendation of City Hall .� Ass't. Engineer Overmyer to install hand rail on steps front entrance to City Hall was approved and the work ordered done under his direction, cost not to exceed $180.00. Derricks The Sup't. of Streets and engineer1having served notice in accordance with law and the time for repairs having elapsed, the city engineer was directed to proceed to abate nuisances con - listing of unsafe derrick structures located on Lots 10 and 12, Block 519 and Lots 14 and 16, Block 316. Abatement to be done in accordance with notices. Bldg. The application of C.E.Summers to erect small building on Lo-t 7, Block 103 was referred back to the building inspector for plans and specifications and further details. Press -Telegram Matter of advertising in the Press -Telegram New Years edition at cost of $409.0-0 page, $225.00 half page, 115.00 quarter page was referred -to the Music & Promotion Committee. Advertising James Macklin, representing the Business Men's Association addressed the Council relative to advertising in the form of colored letter heads. Mr. Macklin was asked to secure further estimates of cost and probable number to be distributed and used by business men and others. 96 l S,4 /93/ B67 Golf Mr. J. A. Hoagland, greens keeper of the golf course addressed the Council relative to his salary stating that he had been cut to $5.00 per day five days per week and that he :wished the salary reinstated at $150.00 per month, working six days per week. Platter referred to committee composed of King and Huston for recommendation or report. Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. P. E. Parking No action on P.E. parking strip lease. strip The clerk read a propcsal signed by W. R. Higgins and City Hall painting Lyndon Wells, painters, in which they -agreed to do extra painting on the City Hall at.cost not to exceed $14-0.50. After an inspection by the Council, on motion by Huston seconded by Stevens the work was ordered done under super— vision of the Sup't. of Streets and in the same manner as work now being done on the main structure: Namely the (pity to pay labor and. material bills. Golf -Bldg. Matter of erection of club house building on the golf course referred to the Streets and Parks committee. Ocean Ave. Mr. Geo. Wardwell addressed the Council relative to tree planting on Ocean Avenue. fir. Wardwell recommended planting Mexican fan palms about 25 feet apart from easterly to westerly city limits, replacing those now standing where it was found advisable. The ground to be dynamited first. -.The cost including dynamite; labor and trees to be $1000.00. This would supply approximately 5A�O new palms and would include trimming trees now in place. Action deferred until matter of compensation insurance for laborers using dynamite be investigated. On motion by Butcher seconded by King the Council adjourned.
