HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-01-11f M I N U T E S _y Cith Hall, Monday January 11, 1932. Pursuant to adjournment of January 4th the City Council met and was called to order by Mayor Conrad at 10:00 A.M. January.11th. Councilmen present: Conrad, Butcher, Hustcn, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent: None. O.of C. 1000.00 W. R. Osborne, president of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Council and submitted a statement covering the activities of the Chamber for the year 1931 and asked an appropriation amoln-sting to $1,000.00 to cover advertising expense for the year 1932 to be made by the Council. Mr. Osborne volunteered to reduce his salary as advertising manager in the sum of $25.00 per month, also to dispense with the $25.0.0 per month expense account heretofore allowed by the City Council. On motion by Butcher seconded by Stevens the sum of ..d$1,000.00 was ordered paid to the Chamber of Commerce for advertising purposes for.the year 1932. -r On motion by Huston seconded by King the salary of advertising manager was fixed at $50.00 per month beCD ginning January 1, .1932 and an allowance not to exceed $10.00 per month to cover traveling expenses. Letter to C . of C. On motion.by Butcher seconded by King the City Clerk was directed to write a letter to the Chamber of Commerce commending that body and its president for their excellent work during the year of -1931. Fire Chief J. K. Sargent was directed to prepare and � Fire Fighting equipment present an estimate covering special fire fighting equipment on Monday January 18th, similar to that called for in his letter this date. Map 463 County Subdivision Map 463 was presented to the Council for approval. No action being taken the Clerk was directed to file the map. Mrs. Griffith Mrs. Griffith, owner of property at the intersection of requests survey Utica and Hampshire,.requested the Council to make a new survey- of the street and establish property lines in .front of her lots. The matter was referred to the Street and Engineering Departraent for investigation and report at the next meeting. 1 Baseball club Horse Shoe Club Beach front Demands Bids opened for sedan On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston the amount of 75.00 was ordered paid to the Iuntington Beach Baseball Club, D.O.Stewart Manager, to help.defray expenses of the baseball team for the year of 1,932. On motion by King_seconded by Butcher the Engineering Department was authorized and directed. to inclose the Horse Shoe Club house porch by glassing sp-me in at a cost not to exceed $250.00. Attorney Blodget submitted a copy of the proposed agreement of the Standard Oil Company, Huntington Beach Company and others conveying certain portions of beach property to the City. No action was taken other than to instruct Attorney Blodget to carefully check the papers and endeavor -to have same complete and return to the City just as soon as possible. On motion by Huston seconded by Stevens demands approved by the Finance Committee were accepted and ordered. paid. This being the day set for. opening and examining bids for furnishing the City Police Department with a new light weight sed<<n the Clerk presented and read the following bids: Main Street Garage, Huntington Beach: One 1932 Essex Standard sedan, fully equipped ;01,054- 50 Lindley and. Hartley, Huntington Beach: One 1932 Chevrolet Standard sedan, fully equipped - - - - - - -- - - - - 986.75 L. D. Coffing Company, Santa Ana: One 1931 Plymouth, four door sedan, fully equipped - - - - - - - - - - - 977.55 V.I. D. Young, Huntington Beach: One 1931 Ford sedan, fully equipped - - 885.00 Hitterdale Motor Company, Huntington Beach: One 1931 Oldsmobile demonstrator - - - - 885.0.0 Special equipment for Police Department 1 to be installed. at cost. The Council at this time recessed for the purpose of analysing the various bids. Council again called to order at 11:30 A.M. All Councilment present except Butcher. On motion by King seconded by Huston all bids for furnishing the Police Department with a light weight sedan were rejected except that of Lindley and Hartley and their bid of $986.75 was accepted. -1 108 -kI Shooting On motion by --Stevens seconded by Ruston Reverend instructor L.A.Arthur was employed as "shooting instructor" to train policemen in markmanship for a -period of six months beginning January 1, 1932 at a salary of $50.0.0 per.month.
