HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-11-09} 1 Unemployed Relief M I N U T E$ City Hall, Wednesday Nov.9th, 1932 Pursuant to adjournment of November 7th, the City Council met and was called to order at 2 o'clock PM. Councilmen present: Conrad, Marion, Huston, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent : None. The Clerk presented and read a letter from the Association of the Unemployed requesting the City Council to appropriate an additional $25.00 per week toward the relief of the needy of Huntington Beach. The letter stated that the number of needy persons had increased in the past few months from 220 persons to a total of 320 persons at the present time. The Mayor, with the unanimous consent of the Council directed the City Clerk to advise the Association that the City would increase its payments to $300.00 per month provided the Association would furnish the City with 75 days of labor each month. Labor to be under the direction of the City Government. City Hall J. S. Denny addressed the Council and presented a letter grounds proposing to beautify the grounds around the Memorial Hall for the sum of $150.00, work to be under the directions of Mr. Blanding of the Blanding Nurseries of Santa. Ana. 19atter referred to the Building and Improvement Committee. ?dater Bill The City Clerk was directed to write the American States Water Service Company relative to their bill, in which $1.00 per hour was charged for labor. Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered, paid. Post Office The matter of a suitable site for the proposed new post office site building was discussed by the Council. On motion by Councilman King seconded by Councilman Huston, the City Clerk was directed to advise the United States Post Office Department that the City of Huntington Beach would donate a site of the required size on Block 505. Motion put and carried unanimously. Windsor Club. Councilman King reported that he and his committee favored the leasing of a portion of Lake Park to the Windsor Club for building site. On motion by Stevens seconded by Marion the City Attorney was directed to prepare -the proper papers.
