Pursuant to adjournment of February 6th the Council met and was called to order at 7:30 PM by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present: Conrad, Huston, King, Stevens..: Councilmen absent ; harion. Warren Bristol, representing the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Council relative to beach camping. Mr. Bristol recommended that -the City set aside grounds on the beach front commencing at 2nd Street and extending 1200 feet easterly for the purpose of beach camping. That rest rooms be installed and water and lights provided for the campers; that the charges be 750 for the first twenty-four hours and 500 thereafter or a rate of $2.00 per week: Lee Chamness, representing the Business Mends Association, said that he concurred with the recommendations of Mr. Bristol. Verne Austin, Commander of the American Legion, said that he and the Legion favored anything for the best interest of the City. William Ebert recommended -the construction of chimneys and wood stoves for the accommodation of campers. Councilman Stevens recommended the extension of the present retaining wall as far east as practicable at the present time. T. B. Talbert addressed the Council in favor of maintaining and operation- of a beach camp ground. The matter was referred to the City -Engineer to map and draft plans for tent sights, rest rooms, water and electric lights and present estimate at the next meeting of the Council. The Clerk read a letter from the American States Water Service Company relative to increase of fire protection i;i the Vista Del Mar district. The water company informed the Council that a survey was being made with a view of submitting plans for a better water service on the east side. A letter from the Chamber of Commerce complaining about the manner in which garbage cans were thrown carelessly around the. alleys was referred to the Health Department and Superintendent of Streets Wirth. The Clerk read a resolution from the Business Mends Association requesting that the Council revise its wheel tax ordinance. The matter was referred back to the Business Mends Association with a . request that detailed recommendations be furnished the Council. _The Clerk gave Ordinance No 358,amending Tax Ordinance Ord 358 its first reading at this time. The Clerk read an application from Mrs. J.W.Barnes asking for the position of janitress at the pier in the event that a vacancy occurred. Golf Course On motion by King seconded by Huston Section 2 of the contract between the City of Huntington Beach and.Stricklin & 8tricklin was. amended by striking out the sixty days' cancellation notice. City Clerk On motion by Huston seconded by Stevens the City Clerk authorized to exchange bonus was authorized to exchange $ 2'g-,000.00 worth of Beverly Hill bonds for a like amount of . City Hall and City Auditorium bonds. This exchange subject to the approval of the City Attorney. $5.00 refund to On motion by King seconded by Stevens a refund of $5.00 to Vol. Fire Dept. the Volunteer Fire Department was allowed, same being charges for the use of the Auditorium on March 17th, 1933. Delinquent On motion by King seconded by Huston the City 'Attorney Taxes was.asked to communicate with the State Department and ascertain amounts now necessary to redeem properties which have heretofore been deeded to the City, of Huntington Beach on account of delinauent taxes. Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by Huston demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. The Council adjourned until Monday, February 20th, 1933s 7.30 PM.
