HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-04-252UN . M I N U T E S City Hall, Tuesday April 25th, 1933 Pursuant to adjournment of April 18th, the City Council met and was called to order at 1Q:•QO AM by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present: Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad. Councilmen absent: Marion. Advertising The request of the Long Beach Press for the City to purchase advertising space in the special edition was referred to the Music and Promotion committee. Baseball Club The application of the night baseball club for funds to help pay expenses of the club and grounds was referred to the Music and Promotion committee. Rest Rooms on Assistant Engineer Overmyer submitted a report on bids Beach received for the construction of the beach rest rooms, and on motion by King seconded by Stevens all bids were rejected. Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by King demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Surety Bond The surety bond of Henry W. Smith, electrical contractor, was approved and ordered filed, on motion by King seconded by Stevens. Ord. 711362 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 362, regulating the sale of alcoholic .beverages, its second and final reading and on motion by King seconded by Huston same was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad. NOES: Councilmen - None. ABSENT:Councilman Marion. Golf Course City Attorney Overacker informed the Council that he would 1P_.ase endeavor to have a new contract covering the lease of the golf course ready for next meeting. License Chief of Police Keller informed -the Council that a cement contractor by the name of Forney had refused to pay the contractor's license. Matter referred to City Attorney Overacker for his advice at next meeting. Quit -claim: City Attorney Overacker informed the Council that he believed deed 1 it would be better to secure a quit -claim deed covering the tideland ,r� lease rather than to start action in accordance with the provisions of Resolution No. 685. Mayor Conrad said that he had been informed that a quit -claim deed was now being prepared by the lessees. Assemibly Bill On motion by King seconded by Huston, the City Clerk was 57n directed to telegraph Senator Edwards and Assemblyman Craig opposing Assembly Bill #570 or any bill attempting to regulate the drilling 1 of oil wells in Huntington Beach. 0 1 he upl0 ed Ass I n.- Repairing City Hall 1 i 0 1 4 The matter of improving the ocean front with rest rooms and camp site was referred to the beach and pier committee with instructions to contact persons desirous of leasing and operating the grounds. On motion by Stevens seconded by King, Superintendent of Streets Wirth was directed to discontinue furnishing work to the Unemployed. Association as of May 1st and that he notify the association to this effect. Assistant Engineer Overmyer was directed to prepare an estimate of the cost of repairing and reconditioning the City Hall in accordance with tentative plans nooi in his office. ` On motion by King seconded by Huston the Council adjourned until 10:00 AM Thursday, April 27th.
