HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-05-0112 M 1 M U T E S City -Hall, Monday May 1st, 1933. The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 700 PM by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present: Marion, Huston, Stevens, King, Corr ad. Councilmen absent None. Mantes On motion by Stevens, seconded by Huston, minutes for the month of April were approved as read. M1.0. Reports The Clerk read monthly reports for the City Clerk, City Treasurer, Engineer, Sup't of Streets,_Chief of Police, City Judge and Building Inspector, and on motion by King seconded by Marion, same were accepted and ordered filed. Est4mwtP of Building Inspector Harry Overmyer submitted estimate of "i t y Hall rPc;a.;.r preliminary repairs of the City Hall. Matter laid. over until next meeting. Comp• Iiia. The Clerk read a letter from the State Compensation Insurance Fund commending the city for its care in preventing accidents and enclosing a dividend check in the amount of $1,052.66. Garden Ci»N A letter and resolution presented by the Garden Club was read, thanking the City Council for its co-operation with the Club and allowing the club to proceed with beautifying the beach bluff by planting trees and shrubs. The Club extended an invitation to the City Council to participate in the garden pilgrimage to be held May 4th. Beer License On motion by King seconded by Marion, the application of Cora M. Craig for license Class No. 2 to sell beer at restaurant, 15th and Walnut, was approved. do The Clerk was directed to inform the ladies of the M.E. Church Sunday School that they might sell, from house to house on May 6th, popcorn and peanuts for purpose of raising funds to repair earthquake damaged church building. do On motion by Stevens seconded by Marion the application of W.T. and Nellie E. Marshall to sell beer (Class No.2) at Sea Breeze Cafe was approved. Do The application of Max Schenfield to sell beer, Class No.l, at 440 Main Street was approved on motion by Stevens seconded by Huston. Do On motion by Stevens seconded by Marion the application of H.E.Talbert for No. 2 License to sell beer at 520 Ocean Avenue was approved. Beer License On.motion by Huston seconded by Stevens the application of Swope Bros. for No.2 Class License to sell beer at 406 Ocean was approved. Reso. The Clerk read Resolution No. 686, weed resolution, and on motion by King seconded by Huston same was passed and adopted by the .following vote: AYES: Councilmen Marion, Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad. NOES: Councilmen — none ABSENT: Councilmen — none. T -ry a„e,, r „rG+, City Attorney OveraQker reported that he had written Senator Bill 1201 Edwards to the effect that the City Council objected to being included in the bounds of the proposed water district, Assembly Bill No. 1201, known as the Santa Ana Basin Water District Bill. Golf Contract Attorney Overacker said he would submit amended Golf Course lease at an early date. Gasuiine. tax Attorney Overacker reported on meeting of the Orange County 1 League of Municipalities held at Orange April 27th. That a committee composed of the 13 Orange County Mayors had been instructed to meet and make demand for a portion of the gas tax allotted for next year, 1933-34. Chairman being Mayor Whitmer of Santa Ana. y keller acid w i I I Attorney Overacker informed the Council that Chief of police iaras sued. Keller and E.R.Williams, city employees had been sued by E. L. Forney. Suit being based on the charge that both Keller and Williams had falsely arrested and -otherwise mistreated the plaintiff mr•. Forney. No action taken by the City Council at this time.
