City Hall,, Friday June 9th, 193311

Pursuant to adjournment of June 5th, the.City Council
met and was called to order at 10:00 AM by Mayor Conrad.
Councilmen present; Conrad, Huston, King, Marion,Stevens.
Councilmen absent None.
Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports for the month of May as
reports
follows; City Clerk, City Treasurer, Superintendent of Streets,
Building Inspector, City Judge, Chief of Police, and on motion
by Stevens seconded by King, same were accepted and ordered filed.
Lase The Clerk presented and read agreement between the City
and C.-K. Morrison covering lease of building No. 5—A on
municipal pier for a period of three years and on motion by
Stevens seconded by Huston, the Mayor and City Clerk were autho—
rized to execute same on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach.
Oru. 4;64 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 364, oil derrick license, its
second and final reading at this time and, on motion by Marion
seconded by Huston, same was passed and adopted by the following
vote;
AYES; Councilmen Marion, Stevens, Huston, King, Conrad.
NOES; None.
Lease. Councilman Huston recommended that the request of James
DeGuelle for lease of concession on pier at the rate of $100.00
per year beginning April 1st, 1933 be granted, and on motion by
Huston seconded by Stevens, the City Attorney was directed to
prepare contract in accordance with Councilman's Huston recommend—
ation and present at next meeting.
License denied On•mation by'Stevens seconded by King, the application of
Captain Smith for license to operate fishing and sig$t—seeing
boat off municipal pier was denied.
Firework The application of D.K.Clapp to sell fireworks on the
beach was referred to the Beach and Pier committee.
Councilman Huston asked to be excused at this time, 10:20 AM.
License On motion by King seconded by Marion the application of

G.W.Maloof for license to operate penny chip roulette at 122
Main Street was denied.
do On motion by Stevens seconded by Marion, the application of
G.B.Morrison to operate lunch wagon through oil field was denied.

The Clerk read a letter signed by M. L. Eaton calling
attention to the recent oil field explosion in Long Beach and
also calling the Council►s attention to the possible danger of
explosion,- of gasoline plants in the vicinity of the grammar
school. The matter was referred to the oil committee for
investigation and report at next meeting.
a tree+ Superintendent of Streets Wirth was directed to turn on

lights on both sides of municipal pier, the arch lights at
Main Street and lights from Ocean Avenue to Olive until 11:00 pM
daily. This to continue up to and including Labor Day.
Co. We%fare Assistant Engineer Overmyer reported that he was now
working twelve men from the Orange County Welfare Department and
that there would probably be more the following week.
On motion by King seconded by Stevens Assistant Engineer
Overmyer was instructed to contact the County Welfare Officer
and urge that men employed by them in the City of Huntington Beach
be Huntington Beach -residents insofar as possible.
Wot-r The Clerk was instructed to write the American States Water
east side
Service Company and request that they hasten work on the east side.
E.L.Fornpy Attorney Overacker informed the Council that the suit brought
cafis P.
by E..L. Forney against Chief of police Keller had been dismissed
but judgment had been rendered against E.R.Williams in the amount
of $50.00 and cost for alleged false arrest.
On motion by King seconded by Stevens, the Council adjourned
until 10:00 AM, Friday June 16th, 1933.
