HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-06-16M I N U T E S City Hall, June 16th, 1933. Pursuant to adjournment of June 9th, 1933, the City Council met and was called to order at 10:00 AM by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present; Marion, Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad. Councilmen absent ; None RFC The Clerk read a letter from the Unified Rehabilitation Corp.,, 326 Chamber of Commerce Bldg., Los Angeles, relative to available funds for repairs on account of earthquake damages. Letter was referred to the City Attorney for his opinion and reply to the letter. The Clerk read a letter from the League of California Muni- cipalities calling attention to recent Federal legislation for the purpose of granting loans to States, Counties and Cities, such funds to be used to relieve unemployment. This was referred to the City Attorney for his opinion. Resolution The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 691 in support IL r611 of Proposition No.2 on the June 27th ballot unemployment relief, and on motion by Huston seconded by King, same was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilman Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad. NO2S: Councilman Marion. ABSENT: None M,or•atorium On motion by King, seconded by Marion, the Tax Collector was authorized. to receive tax payments up until June 20th,1933 without penalty on the second half of 1932-33 taxes, provided that the tax receipt show the amount received. Gasolii.Le The application of the Standard Gasoline Company for permit 'w"irld5ur Club- f irewarks to operate plant No-3 at 22nd and Palm was referred to the Oil Committee for investigation concerning mufflers and pressure and report at next meeting of the Council. The application of the Windsor Club` to sell--P ri works at 120 Main Street, and one other location agreeable to the Chief of Police was granted on motion by Stevens seconded by Marion. °B 1201- Mayor Conrad made report of his and Councilman King's Orange Co . water District meeting with Governor Rolph in opposition to Senate Bill 1201, 3 known as the Orange County Water Bill. Mr. Conrad stated that a number of cities were represented and entered protest against the Governor signing the bill but that the bill was signed over all protests: 1 a.- 1 T 1 i A, Relief Assistant Engineer Overmyer stated that 39 men were being furnished the city by the County relief department. Beaob Assistant Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that the water company's estimate for running water line to the proposed beach camp was $1,500.00, that electric lighting would cost would cost about $400.00 $400.00, and that an extension of the present 2 inch water line/' and installation of lateral lines /would cost about $132.00. Temporary toilets would cost about $15.00 each. On motion by Huston seconded by Marion the assistant engineer was authorized and directed to proceed with the erection of temporary toilets, four in number and to extend the 2 inch water line to the grounds. East Side On motion by King seconded by Huston the fire chief was Hyde ants authorized to order th-e installation of two 4 inch fire hydrants on Frankfort Street and replace with a 4 inch hydrant on Hartford Street. Speoia.l The appointment of Ted Tarbox as special police officer was approved on motion by King seconded by Marion. n Demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid La iilat,d. on motion by Stevens seconded by Marion.
