HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-08-14240 M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday Aug. 14th, 1933. Pursuant to adjournment of August 7th, the City Council met and was called to order at 10:30 A.Pr. by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present: Huston, King, Marion, Stevens, Conrad. Councilmen absent : None. No matters were taken up by the Council at this time. On -motion by Stevens seconded by Marion, the Council adjourned until 7:30 P.M. August 14th, 1933• p: City Clerk and ex-o ficio Clerk o the City Council. Councilmen present: Marion, King, Huston, Stevens, Conrad. Councilmen absent : None. Street Superintendent of Streets Wirth recommended that the M . Exc.^. y c^a,ti0ns ordinance governing street excavation be amended. so as. to require a 3¢ charge for maintenance instead of a 3¢ deposit as now required, and on motion by King seconded by Huston, the City Attorney was directed to amend the ordinance in accordance with Mr. Wirth's I recommendations. 7:45 P.M. Councilman Marion was excused from the Council. Tax The Clerk read a letter from the Business Lien's Association recommending that a wheel tax ordinance be adopted. The City Attorney was directed to keep in touch with other cities and submit a wheel tax ordinance as soon as adopted by other cities. The Clerk was directed to write the Business Men's Association and ini'orm them of the action taken by the Council. Booster. Plant The application of 0. C. Fields Gasoline Corporation for * 13th 0 palm license to operate a booster plant at 13th and Palm was referred to the Oil Committee for its recommendation. 244 vrd. #i65 Or. d. #366 The Clerk gave Ordinance #365 .its second and final reading at this time and on motion by Stevens seconded by King same was passed, and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Huston, King, Stevens, Conrad. NOES: None ABSENT: Marion The Clerk gave Ordinance #366 its second and final reading at this time and on motion by King seconded by Huston same was passed and adopted by the following vote AYES: Huston, King, Stevens, Conrad.. NOES: None ABSENT: Marion. 8:00 P.M. Councilman Maaion returned to the Council Chamber at this time. Ord. #367 The Clerk gave Ordinance #367, regulating construction of First neadi g- gasoline stations, its first reading at this time. I,ewlc.nd l;emo. The Clerk read a letter signed by members of the Chamber of Commerce and other citizens requesting that the Council del icate a portion of the beach front to be used for the con- struction of a Newland Memorial. The matter was referred back tO the Chamber df Commerce for suggestions as to how the project 1 is to be financed. 1—LI nt?pr On motion by King seconded by ?Marion the Fire Chief was directed'to furnish the. City Clerk a list of active volunteer firemen. This list to be forwarded by the Clerk to the State Compensation Insurance Fund._ Slant Drilling PMayor Conrad informed the Council that the State of California had started action against slant drilling in the local oil field. He recommended..t"lzat the City Council join with the State in this action:"` Colonel Wellington, a Santa, Ana attorney, then appeared before the Council and explained briefly the method of procedure in such actions. Colonel Wellington stated that the attorney fees in this case would be $1500 plus $500 adv.ance5 for court costs and. an additional 25% of all benefits gained_by the City would be paid the attorneys in the event of a successful conclusion of the case. No action was taken by the. City Council. Delinquent The City Clerk was directed to write Harvey Walker and rent _ again call his attention to delinquent rentals.
