There being no quorum present, Councilman Stevens and
Marion adjourned the meeting until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August

Pursuant to adjournment of August 15th, the City Council
met and was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Mayor Conrad.
Councilmen present: Marion, Huston, Stevens, King, Conrad.
Councilmen absent : None
Police Radio- The Clerk read a letter from Logan Jackson, Sheriff of
Orange Co.
Orange County relative to the matter of a police radio in
Orange County and asking that the City Council meet with him
to discuss the matter. This was referred to the Police and
Fire Committee with authority to meet Sheriff' Jackson and
report back at next meeting.
` I-R:A. The Clerk presented a circular letter of the President
of the United States calling attention to the rates of pay and
hours to be worked under the new reemployment agreement. Action
was deferred by the Council until a later date.
L�adget The Mayor at this time informed the Council that the main
purpose of this meeting was for discussion of the budget for
the ensuing year.
The Clerk informed the Council that the budget requirements
of the various departments was approximately $45,000 in excess
of anticipated revenue, and on motion by Stevens seconded by
Marion, the Clerk was directed to refer the budget back to the
heads of the various city departments with the request that they
out their requirements so as to come under the anticipated. revenue.
The Clerk suggested. to the Council that this was placing
a very nea,vy responsibility on the heads of the departments on
` account of the amounts -being so large. The Mayor then suggested
that the Clerk proceed with the items of expenditure in detail
so that the Council mio-h`t offer its suggestions as to what cuts
should be made.
