City Hall, Wednesday Oct.11th, 1933
There being no quorum present, the meeting of this date,
which was adjourned to from October 2d, 1933, Councilmen
Conrad and King adjourned the meeting until Wednesday'October
18tn, 1933, at the hour of 10:00 o'clock AM.

Pursuant to adjournment of October llth', the Council met at-:'
10:00 AM and was called to order at 11:00 AM by Mayor Conrad.
Councilmen present: Stevens, King, Conrad.
Councilmen absent ; Marion.
Gas oline Tax The Clerk presented and read a resolution prepared by the

State ?bad Department relative to allocation of gasoline tax.
Action deferred until next meeting.

T___ On motion 'by Stevens, seconded by King the application of

E.A.Ryder to operate tango parlor in Beach Concession No. 1 was
approved.
Marion Councilman Marion arrived at this time 11:45 A.M.

Arr:i^tice On motion by King seconded by Stevens, the sum of1g5.00

was allocated for a 37 piece band under W. H. Gallienne and
$50.00 to assist in building a float, both from the Music and
Promotion fund, and for the purpose of participating in the
Armistice Day parade at Orange, California November llth, 1933.
:arse The Chair appointed Councilman Marion on the Finance Committee.

Vault door The City Controller was authorized to piitchase vault door
from Remington Rand Company for the sum of $250.00 installed in the
new vault under main entrance to city hall building. This on
motion by Stevens seconded by King.
Demands Demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid
on motion by Stevens seconded by King.
Recess The Council recessed at Noon until 1:30 P.M. and was again
called to order at 1:30 P.M. by Mayor Conrad, all members of the

Council present.
M.: nicipal Engineer Overmyer presented and read an estimate of cost
pier to repair the municipal pier on account of earthquake damages.

Mr. Overmyer informed the Council that there was grave danger of
damage and possible collapse of the pier on account of.the rough
tides at this season. That Newport was having much damage to
its.coast line, and that he recommended immediate action for the
'protection of person and property.
Resolution Councilman Stevens introduced a resolution and moved its

adoption as follows: ':That an emergency exists in that it has
developed that the municipal pier, on account of the earthquake
of March loth, 1933, and subsequent damages by tides, is in
grave danger of collapsing if not repaired immediately: That
the bid of California Gunite Company for rental` of compressor for
chipping:. -at -rate of $6.0.0 per -hour and,,appliQation of . gunite -not to
exceed 20. cu yds' at° $60,.00 per cu=yd be accepted. Motion seconded by
Marion and Resolution�,No...698;passed and adopted by the following votes:
AYES: Councilmen Marion, Stevens, King, Conrad.
NOES: Councilmen - none
On motion by King seconded by Marion, the City Engineer
was authorized and directed to proceed with repair of the
municipal pier in accordance with his recommendations now on
file, and to employ such labor and purchase through the city
such material as may be necessary.
Resoluti;,r, The Clerk presented and read resolution No. 699 authorizing

the mayor and Clerk to execute deed to Joe Palladino et ux
covering portions of Lots 1, 3, 5,.Block 301. On motion by
King seconded by Marion same was passed and adopted by the
f ollowing vote:
AYES: Councilmen Marion, Stevens, King, Conrad.
NOES: Councilmen - none
The Council adjourned on motion by Stevens seconded by
Marion.
