Councilmen present; Conrad, Talbert, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent; Marion. minutes On motion by Stevens, seconded by Talbert, Vinutes of the Council for the month of November were appro>ved,as read. Oil suit Mayor Conrad informed the Council that the City of Huntington Beach had been named as defendant in seven suits filed against Wilshire Oil Company, et al, by the State of California on account of alleged slant drilling. And on motion by King seconded by Talbert the City Attorney was authorized to appear and make answer on behalf of the City. DeGuelle Lease On motion by Talbert seconded by King the application of James DeGuelle for transfer of lease from present location to circular room on end of the pier was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee for its recommendation next meeting. Arrliistice Day At the request of Chief Keller, the City Clerk was ig34 directed to write the Orange County Council of the American Legion and invite them to hold their 1934 Armistice Day celebration in Huntington -Beach. This on motion by Stevens seconded by King. Press -Telegram On motion by Talbert seconded by Stevens, the sum of New Year Adv. . $115.00 was appropriated from the Music and Promotion fund to pay for a one -quarter page advertisement in the press -Telegram annual edition during January lu- Tango The application of E. R. Bank, 823 Ridgeley Drive, Los Angeles, and of J. Landon, 6411 w. 6th St., Los Angeles, to operate Tango parlors at 110 Main Street and 306 Ocean Avenue respectively were ref:er-red to the City Council as a committee or the whole to report at next meeting. Cafe The application of' Catherine Sherret to operate cafe at 406 Ocean Avenue was approved on motion by King seconded by Stevens. License The application of L.O.Loretz to operate cigar and confectionery store at 105 Main street was approved on motion by King seconded by Talbert. paicsj.L The Clerk read a letter signed by W.R.Hirgins asking that he be ap,cinteo_ foreman of crew painting city hall and auditorium, work being done by Government funds. He was in- formed that application should go before the proper U.S. government agent at Santa Ana. Lqw Docks Attorney Overacker recommended that the city purchase a set of 6 volumes of THORNTON on the law of OIL AND GAS for the sum of $45.00. Matter taken under advisement by the City Council. Petition to pass Ord. The Clerk read a petition signed by approximately 200 requiring boiler firemen to pass citizens asking that the City Council pass an ordinance requiring Examination all boiler firemen to pass an examination. natter taken under advisement and city clerk directed to secure copies of ordinances in effect at Long Beach and Signal Hill. Dangerous crossing Councilman Talbert called attention to the dangerous Pj.ain St. & Gai• ieid crossing at Main and Garfield and across the S. P. Railway and recommended that the crossing be widened. Matter referred to the City Engineer to contact the County road department and supervisors. Liquor Cortroi Attorney Overacker informed the Council that a group of attorneys would meet again at Glendale on December 13th to submit liquor control regulations. Sewage Disposal Attorney Overacker stated that the necessary papers had been prepared. for making application for Government loan to construct sewage disposal -plant. Pier Engineer Overmyer reported on pier - repair work, and was asked by the Council to write the county Supervisors asking them to contribute gas tax money toward the pier - repair expense. Keller & Sargent On motion by King seconded by Stevens, Police Chief vacatiofie Keller was granted vacation December 5th to 20th and Fire Chief Sargent same from December 15th to 29th inclusive dates.
