The regular meeting of the City Council was called to
order at 7; 30 P.M. by Mayor Conrad.
Councilmen present; Marion, Talbert, King, Conrad.
- Councilmen absent Stevens.

of December were approved as read.

Building Inspector, Superintendent of Streets, Chief of Police, City
Judge and annual report of the Chief of Police, and on motion by
Talbert seconded by King, same were accepted and placed on file.
The written application of the Anaheim Bottling Works for refund

license of a portion of their wholesale beer license fees was denied, on motion

by Talbert seconded by King.
City The application of 'the Royal Neighbors for exclusive use of the

City Auditorium for card parties each and every Thursday night was
referred back to the City Clerk with instructions to write the
applicants to the effect that the resolution governing rates does not
permit the Council to give exclusive rights to any organization.
Ap-olication The application of Laura Anderson for license to conduct. a

referred restaurant at 912 Ocean Avenue was referred back to the Chief of Police

Police
The matter of licensing boiler firemen in the oil field by
ordinance was referred to the oil committee for its recommendations.

Surety,Bond On motion by Talbert seconded by Marion, the Assistant City.
Treasurer's surety bond was ordered increased from the present sum of

State cf Calif. City Attorney Overacker informed the Council that the City had

Camp et al, regarding alleged slant oil well drilling. On motion by
King seconded by- Marion-;._ the City Attorney was instructed to appear
for the City in base No. 316-20, State of California vs Chas. W. Camp,

Ord. 371 The City Clerk gave Ordinance -,0371; amending license ordinance,
first readinm

and James De Guelle and Goldie De Gue11e his wifse .covering a portion
of the -circular sun room on the end of the municipal pier, and on
motion by King seconded by Talbert, the Mayor and City Clerk were
directed to execute same on behalf of the City providing the lease

Stone, consulting engineer, to the effect that the City would

employ Mr. Stone to assist in securing a loan from the national
government and, if successful, to supervise the construction of
a proposed $100,000.00 sewage disposal plant, fees to be paid
Mr. Stone as follows; $500.00 retainer fee to be paid upon execution
of the above named contract, an amount equal to 4% of construction
cost to be paid 5Q% upon completion of plans and specifications
and the balance as the work progresses.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Marion, the Mayor and City
Clerk were authorized to execute the above named agreement with...
changes as suggested by the Council. -
Demands On motion by Marion seconded by Talbert, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Recess At this time, 9:15 P.M. the City Council recessed and ret.redd
for executive session. The Councilmen returned to the Council
chamber at 1;•05 A.M. January 3d and were called to order by Mayor Conrad.

City Attorney Ray Overacker presented and read to the Council
Agreement
an agreement between the City of Huntington Beach, party of the first
part; E. G.°;Conrad, T. B. Talbert, Chris. H. King and John H. Marion,
members of the City Council, parties of the second part; and L.W. .

Blodget and Geo. B. Bush, attorneys at law, -parties of the third part.
The above named agreement to the effect that the City of Huntington.
Beach employ Attorneys L.W.Blodget and Geo. B. Bush, as special counsel
for said city to defend it in certain litigations with the State of
California et al and. to institute, commence or prosecute to satisfactory
compromise or final determination such litigation or proceedings for
affirmative relief as shall be deemed proper and appropriate under the
premises, to protect the interests of the City and its citizens and
taxpayers.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Marion, the Mayor and City Clerk
were authorized and directed to execute the above named agreement on
behalf of the City and that said.above named attorneys be paid jointly
the sum of $2500 as retainer fee immediately. Motion put and j.
carried unanimously.
On motion by Talbert seconded by King, the Cit Council adjourned
