HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-03-051 1 1� 1 M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday March 5th, 1934. The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present; Marion,Talbert,Stevens,King, Conrad. Councilmen absent ; None. Minutes On motion by King seconded by Marion, Minutes for the month of February were approved as read. Gas rates The Clerk presented and read a letter from the Southern Counties Gas Company explaining their reasons why the gas rates in Huntington Beach could not be lowered. The letter stated that on account of the unreliability of town -lot fields,it had been necessary to construct expensive lines leading from the Ventura and Kettleman Hills districts at a cost of approximately $9,000,000. After some discussion with representatives of the Business Men's Association and Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor suggested that copies of the letter be furnished these or- ganizations and that a later meeting be called to discuss their findings. Monthly The Clerk read reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer, City Reoorts Judge, City Engineer, Building Inspector, Superintendent of Streets and Cnief of Police, and on -motion by Stevens, seconded by King, same were accepted and ordered filed. Leese - The following motion by King, that the lease between the Hunting - Baseball grounds cancel1-er ton Beach Company and City of Huntington Beach covering baseball grounds located near the intersection of First Street and Ocean Avenue be cancelled as of March 17th, 1.934. Motion was seconded by Talbert, put and carried unanimously. APplicwtion The application of Mae Barnes for position as caretaker of the Women's rest room at the Municipal pier was referred to the Beach and pier committee. Chamber of The Clerk read a let ter from the Chamber of Commerce asking that Comerce the City appropriate the sum of $500 to cover rental and anticipated advertising expenses up to June 30th, 1934. On motion by Talbert seconded -by Stevens, the Council voted to appropriate the sum of $200 to cover rental of the Chamber's headquarters, payable April 2d, 19.34. Horseshoe The matter of covering the floor of the horseshoe club was C1 ub ref erred to the city engineer witn instructions to secure an estimate of the cost. The matter of painting the horseshoe club house was referred to the building committee for its recommendations. 84 _/�2� i Lease - The following motion by King that the lease between the ° ccncelled City of Huntington Beach and the Huntington Beach Company and Standard Oil Company covering baseball ground site on Mansion Avenue be cancelled as of this date for the reason that said lease is not acceptable to the C.W.A. on account of its ninety dayscancellation clause. Motion seconded by Talbert, `put and carried unanimously. Clui111 for The Clerk read verified claim for damages signed by Tom. L. damages Price in which Mr. price claimed that he was injured while walking along 15th Street about 35 feet north of the intersection of the sidewalk on 15th Street and Walnut Avenue. Mr. price claimed that the date of this injury was February 6th, 1934 about 7:20 P.M. The Claim was referred to City Attorney Over— acker for appropriate action and that he advise the City Council at next meeting of the action he had taken. This, on motion by King seconded by Talbert. Lease On motion by Stevens seconded by Talbert, the Mayor and City 0.I..ivlcrrison � Clerk were authorized and directed to execute a five years lease agreement between the City and C.K.Morrison for the operation of fishing boats to and from the municipal pier. The purpose of said lease being to permit Mr. Morrison to use the pier landing. ABSENT: None . �:'ater lire _ Fire Chief Sargent informed the Council that the American States cost of � Water Service 'Company estimated the cost for six inch water line to the Sea Breeze Auto camp would be approximately $2000 for 600 feet; four inch line approximately $600. The City Clerk was directed to contact Mr. H. V. Anderson of the water company and arrange a meeting between himself and the City Council in the near future relative to the construction of this water line. i, Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by Marion, demands approved by the finance committee were ordered paid. City Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that the C.W.A. had promised to furnish the necessary material for the completion of the work now under way on the beach front. Lifeguard On motion by Talbert seconded by Stevens, the City Engineer was t 1owers directed to construct two additional life guard towers on the beach front. Radios - On motion by Talbert seconded by Marion, the City Controller rnotoro,oles was authorized and directed to purchase two radio outfits for the two police motorcycles at a cost not to exceed $75.00 per unit. M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday March 12th,1934. Pursuant to adjournment of March 5tn, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present; Marion, Stevens, King, Conrad. Councilmen absent; Talbert. Iorseshoe Club Lyndon Wells addressed the Council relative to installing house - flooring flooring in the Horseshoe Club house and suggested that perhaps wooden flooring would be more economical than a composition flooring. Whereupon a representative of the Huntington Beach Lumber Company submitted a bid of $107.00 for pine flooring to cover the club room and sun room floors. Bid The City Clerk presented and read bid of the Special Service Flooring Corporation to furnish material -and labor to cover the two floors with 1/9 inch Tile-tex, sun room $58.00 and club room $110.00, delivery within one`month. The matter was deferred until next 7 meeting of the Council to allow local dealers to submit bids on composition flooring. Neon sign for City Engineer Overmyer presented a sketch of proposed Neon C t],ii'D ground d, lighting sign for the tent city entrance, same to be installed by the Neon Corporation at a cost of $185.00 including maintenance and service for a period of twelve months. This matter was referred to the Beacn and Pier Committee for its recommendation.
