M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday March 12th,1934. Pursuant to adjournment of March 5th, the.City Council met and was called to order at 7;30 P.M. by Mayor Conrad. Councilmen present; Marion, Stevens, King, Conrad. Councilmen absent; Talbert. Lyndon Wells addressed the Council relative to installing flooring in the Horseshoe Club house and suggested that perhaps wooden flooring would be more economical than a composition flooring. Whereupon a representative of the Huntington Beach Lumber Company submitted a bid of 4$107.00 for pine flooring to cover the club room and sun room floors. The City Clerk presented and read bid of the Special Service Flooring Corporation to furnish material -and labor to cover the two floors with 1/8 inch Tile-tex, sun room $58.00 and club room $110.00, delivery within one month. The matter was deferred until next meeting of the Council to allow local dealers to submit bids on composition flooring. City Engineer Overmyer presented a sketch of proposed Neon lighting sign for the tent city entrance, same to be installed by the Neon Corporation at a cost of $$185.00 including maintenance and service for a period of twelve months. This matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee for its recommendation. 286 City Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that County Engineer Nat Neff had informed him that the county was making application to the Southern pacific Railway to straighten and widen the crossing at Main Street and Garfield. Dogs - The Clerk read a letter from Dr. K. H. Sutherland of licensed the Orange County Health Department recommending that the Council take steps to have all dogs licensed within the City limits and suggesting that if the City police staff could not undertake the work that the county might be able to assist the City in this work. The matter was referred to the police and Fire Committee for its recommendation. Vital statistic-- On motion by King seconded by Stevens, the local registrar fees was authorized to collect and retain all fees in connection with the office of vital statistics in Huntington Beach. Councilman At -this time, 7:45 P.M , Councilman Talbert arrived and Talbert arrives took his seat at the council table. Matter of painting the Horseshoe Club house was deferred until next meeting. Lease - Mr. Osborne, representing the Graham Loftus Company, sub - witted to the Council a proposed oil and gas lease covering the City's dump ground. After a short consultation with the Oil Committee, Chairman Marion of that committee requested further time in which to study the proposed lease. Matter laid over until a later meeting of the City Council. Sepaer Crossing Following motion by Talbert- that the Mayor and City Clerk on Ocean Ave. be authorized and directed to execute an agreement with the pacific Electric Railway Company providing for a sewer crossing across Ocean Avenue approximately 80 feet easterly of the easterly line of First Street. Motion seconded by Stevens, put and carried unanimously. Bids for The Clerk read bids for furnishing the City with gasoline asoli ne for the coming year beginning April 4th as submitted by the Standard*0il Company and the Union Oil Company, same were referred to the Finance Committee. Road The Clerk read a letter from the State of California Road Department in which objection was raised to the exclusion of the 30 root strip along Ocean Avenue and with the request that the City Council adopt a resolution similar to the one submitted by the State. The matter was referred to the City Attorney for his recommendation. Caretaker- On motion by Talbert seconded by Stevens, the Mayor and tent city City Clerk were authorized and directed to execute on behalf of the _a City an agreement employing W. C. Hopkins and Ann C. Hopkins as caretakers of the municipal tent city. Mayor. Conrad The Clerk read the resignation of Mayor -Councilman E.G. resigns Conrad and on motion by Talbert seconded by Ring, the matter was taken under advisement until next meeting of the City Council at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 14tn, 1934. On motion by -King seconded by Talbert, the Council ad- journed until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 14th, 1934.
