City Hall, Wednesday March 14tn, 1934
Pursuant to adjournment of March 12tn, 1934, the City
Council met and was called to order at 11:00 o'clock AM, by Mayor
Conrad.
Councilmen present; Marion,Talbert, Stevens,King, Conrad.
Councilmen. absent ; None.
Dog License The Clerk read a letter from Dr. K. H. Sutnerland, chief of
the orange Country health Department calling the City Council's
attention to the stray dog menace in Huntington Beach and suggesting
that the council take steps to abate the nuisance by enforcement of
the dity'ordinances, also offering the County's cooperation in the
event the city council desired it.
Chief of Police Keller recommended that the matter of re-
gulation be delegated to the county authorities. Keller's re-
commendation was taken under consideration until next meeting of
the city council.
On motion by Talbert seconded by King, the City Clerk was
directed to publisn a notice in the Huntington Beach News.calling
attention to the owners of dogs that the city ordinance is to be
enforced.

The Clerk read bids of Shell Oil Company, Richfield Oil
Gasoline bias
Company and Socal Oil and Refining Company for furnishing the city
with gasoline for the year beginning April 4th, 1934. Same was
referred to the Finance Committee to be reported upon at next
meeting of the city council.
Flooring for The Huntington Beach Lumber Company submitted a revised
Horne-siloe figure of $126.g9 for flooring the Horse shoe club house, also

a figure of $274.60 for rubber composition flooring including
waterproofing. The matter was deferred to next meeting of the
Council.

The matter of leasing the 2� acre junk yard. on Ocean Avenue
-oil rase at the easterly city limits to Wm. Loftus for an oil well site was
discussed. Motion by Councilman Stevens that lease be referred to
the City Attorney for study and report back at next meeting, was
lost for want of a second.
Following motion by Councilman Talbert, "That the Mayor
and City Clerk be authorf ed and directed to execute the lease
provided same meets with the approval of the City Attorney and
provided further that the $100.00 per month rental begin imme-

diately upon execution of the lease by the.City and continue
for a period of twelve months". Motion seconded by Marion, put
and carried unanimously.

Card games Councilman Talbert stated that the pastime pool Hall
i.,
pool hall was desirous.of permission to allow card games to be played
in the pool hall and that they be allowed to issue checks for
merchandise. Action deferred to next meeting.
Cojirad s Mayor Conrad referred to his resignation submitted March
resigration
12th, 1934, which was worded to take effect as of April 1st, 1934.
Due to certain limitations contained in the election laws,
Mayor Conrad stated, he was filing a new resignation same to
take effect immediately on reading same. This was done, Mr.
Conrad said, so that his successor could be selected by the voters
at the coming election April 9th, 1934. The Clerk then read Mayor
Conrad's resignation as Mayor and City Councilman to take effect
immediately. Mayor Conrad then asked Councilman Talbert to take
the chair.
On motion by King seconded by Marion the resignation was
accepted by unanimous vote of the City Council.
Chairman Talbert stated that he was sorry to lose the
services of Councilman Conrad, that he had served the City well
and faithfully during the past six years.
Mr. Conrad said that he had enjoyed working with the City
Council, and that his reason for resigning was that he intended
to enter the race for County Supervisor and wanted to be free to

devote his time in this direction.

uouriv i iiiiarl ment to fill the vacancy on the council created by the resignation
of Councilman Conrad. This nomination was seconded by Councilman
King, put and carried unanimously.
On motion by Councilman Stevens seconded by Councilman Marion
put and carried unanimously, John A. Gores was appointed councilman
to serve until the next General Municipal Election.
The City Clerk then administered the oath of office to
Councilman Gores who then took his seat at the council table.

PAayor B. Talbert was appointed Mayor and Chairman of the City Council.
On motion by Stevens seconded by Marion, the Council
adjourned.
