Monday,Apr.leth,1934 pursuant to adjournment of Saturday April 14tn, 1934, the City Council met and was called to order at 7;00 P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present; Talbert, Gores, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent ; Marion. Minutes The Clerk read minutes for April 2d, 5th, 6th and 14th, 1934, and, on motion by King seconded by Stevens, same were approved as read. Lease Matter of the Loftus lease was deferred to next meeting of the newly elected Council. At this time, 7;15 P.M., -the Council adjourned until 7:30 P.M. for the purpose of canvassing ballots in accordance - r with law. Monday Apr. 16tn,1934- pursuant to statutes governing cities of the fifth and sixth classes, the Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present; Talbert, Gores, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent ; Marion. Canvass ballots The City Council then proceeded to canvass the ballots of the April 9tn, 1954 election in accordance with law. After having examined the records of the April 9th election and declaring the same to be correct, the Council then directed the City Clerk to open and examine:the absent voters' ballots. Councilmen A?asrion At this time, 7;40- P.I+:1. , Councilman Marion arrived and arrives, took his seat at -the council table. The Clerk informed the Council that there were sixteen sealed envelopes and, after passing the same around to the Councilmen and City Attorney, the Clerk proceeded to open and Y count the ballots. The Clerk then presented and read Resolution #707, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part of these x minutes, same being the City Council's resolution declaring the result. of the above election and, on motion by King seconded by Marion, Resolution No. 707 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Talbert, Gores, Jiarion, King,0tevens. NOES: None ABSENT: None RESOLUTION No 7 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH CALIFORNIA DECLARING RESULT OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION MiER:EAS a Genera. In accordance with law governing cities of the fifth and sixth classes, the City Clerk administered the oath of office to the -following newly elected city officials: A. Tovatt, City Councilman, elected for the short term of two years. T. B. Talbert, City Councilman, elected for the full term of four years. Willis H.Warner, City Councilman, elected for the full term of four years. fi Leland S. Chamness,City Councilman, elected for the short term of two years. Bayard Butcher, City Treasurer, elected for the short term of two years. Whereupon each of the above named officials took their seats around the council table. The City Clerk then called the meeting to order and announced the first order of business would be the election of a mayor to serve during the ensuing two years. T.B.Talbert was nominated by Council- man Tovatt and the nomination was seconded by Councilman Marion. -t- The Clerk put the motion to a vote which resulted in two ayes and three not voting. Whereupon the City Clerk called for roll -call which resulted as follows: AYES: Councilmen Marion, Tovatt, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen Chamness and Warner. ABSENT: None. The Clerk then declared Councilman Talbert the newly elected y Mayo r . Mayor Talbert then made a short speech thanking his supporters and expressing his desire and belief that the Council would have a successful and harmonious administration. Retiring Councilmen King, E.B.Stevens and J.A.Gores con- gratulated the newly elected councilmen and expressed a desire for full cooperation of the citizens of Huntington Beach. .X -•t 1 Newly elected City Treasurer Bayard Butcher thanked the retiring councilmen for their cooperation and expressed his desire that the newly elected Councilmen would have a success- ful administration. Councilman Warner voiced his appreciation -to. the people for the honor they had given him and pledged his support for the best interests of the city. Councilman Chamness pledged his support to the newly elected mayor and councilmen and to the city as a whole. Councilman Tovatt thanked the citizens for their support and pledged his best efforts for the City's welfare. Councilman Marion expressed his belief that the newly elected council -would -work in harmony and for the best efforts of the city. Mayor Talbert asked the members of the Council if they were ready to receive aprointments.as heads of the various committees. After. some discussion- it was decided to defer appointment of committees and.city department heads until a later meeting and, on motion by Chamness, seconded by Tovatt, the Council- adjourned. until 9:00 A.T?.
