City Hall, Monday July 2d, 1934.
The regular meeting of.the City Council was called to order
at 7:30 P.M by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Marion, Chamness, Warner, Tovatt, ',Talbert.
Councilmen absent : None.
Minutes On motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, the Minutes for the
month of June were approved as read.
Tango A Mr. Fabel who had previously made application for license to
operate a tango game appeared before the Council and renewed his request.
City Attorney Overacker called the Council's attention to a recent
decision of the State appellate Court as of March 14th,1934 in which it
was decided that tango was a lottery and therefore a violation of the
State statutes. No action was taken by the Council.
Golf Course The Clerk read an agreement between the City of Huntington'Beach
and the Huntington Beach Company cancelling the City's lease on the golf
course, and on motion by Marion seconded by Warner, the Mayor and City
Clerk were authorized and directed to execute the same and deliver on
behalf of the City of Huntington Beach.

ferred to the City Engineer, City Attorney and Building Committee of the
Council for investigation and recommendations at next meeting.
SERA City Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that projects sub-
mitted to the SERA have been approved and that work will be started
along the beach front in the near future. Engineer Overmyer also re-
commended that application be made to the SERA for assistance in the
improvement on sidewalks, curbs and streets; the City to furnish all
material. The Chair directed Engineer Overmyer to investigate
further and report at next meeting covering repairs of sidewalks, curbs
and streets from First Street to 17th Street.'
The City Clerk was directed to secure an estimate for the expense
CPA Audit
of a CPA audit covering period of approximately 22 years to the present
time and report at next meeting of the Council.
White truck Superintendent of Streets Wirth informed the Council that it
would cost approximately'$282.00 to repair the White truck, but that he
did not recommend the expenditure of that much money on account of the
truck being approximately seven years old. The matter was referred to

the Street Committee composed of Councilmen Tovatt, Chamness and
Talbert for their recommendations at next meeting of the Council.,
The�,Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City
Monthly reports
Clerk, City J'dge, Chief of Police, Superintendent of Streets and
Building Inspector, and on motion by Warner seconded by Marion, same
were accepted and ordered filed.
Reso.#713 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 713 together
with an agreement with the State Highway Department covering
repairs of Ocean Avenue and Hampshire Avenue, and.on motion by
Marion seconded by Tovatt, the Mayor and City Clerk were authori-
zed and directed to execute same oft behalf of the City.
Beach Councilman Marion informed the Council that Hansen Moore
of the Mills Land,and Water Company had made a verbal request
that the City lease their property on the beach front during the
summer season. Chief of Police Gelzer informed the Council that
the property was now being patrolled. Superintendent of Streets
Wirth was directed to post "No Camping" signs along the above
property.

Mayor Talbert presented a request from the Orange County
Coast Association asking that the City join in an advertising
campaign together with the County and other coast cities and that
the City of Huntington.Beach appropriate a sum of $105.00, adver-
tising to be run -'-.in the Los Angeles Times and Examiner on July 9th,
19th, August 2d and 9th. No action was taken by the Council.
Bids - The Clerk presented and read bids for furnishing the City
Sedan
Police Department with a new sedan. Bids were submitted by W.D.
Young, H. W. Hartley and E. R. Billings. The following motion
by Chamness seconded by Warner, that the City.purchase a 1934
Chevrolet Master 6 at a total cost of $855.62. This motion lost
by the following vote:
AYES: Chamne.ss .Wanner.
NOES: Marion, Tovatt, Talbert.
On motion by Marion seconded by Chamness, the City Police
Department was authorized to -cast a secret ballot indicating the
type of car they most desired. Motion put and carried by the
following vote:
AYES:. Marion, Chamness, Tovatt, Talbert.
NOES: Warner.
On motion by Warner seconded by Chamness, the Council
adjourned until 12:00 o'clock noon, July 3d, 1934.
