MINUTES
BOARD OF EQUALIZATION`
Council Chamber, City Hall,
Huntington Beach, Aug.13,1934.
The regular meeting of the Board of.Equalization was called
to order at 10:00 A M by Chairman Talbert.
Members of the Board present were: Marion,Cha.mness,Warner,
Tovatt, Talbert.
ABSENT: None. -
Mr. D. Simmons of 980 Arapahoe Street, Los Angeles, addressed
the Council and protested against the assessed valuation of Lots
9-11, 2--4-13-15, Block 712. Lot 26 in Block 706 and°.Lots 10-
12--14 in Block 713. '
The matter was referred by the Chairman to the Board as a
whole to check up and report their recommendations at the
7:15 o'clock meeting, Monday August 20th, 1934.
On motion by Marion seconded by Warner, the Board of
Equalization adjourned until 7:30 p.m. August 14th, 1934.

Pursuant to adjournment of August 13th, the, Board of
Equalization met and was called .to order at 7:30 P M by Chair-
man Talbert.
Board Members present: Marion,Chamness,Warner, Tovatt,Talbert.
Board Membere.absent None., -
The Clerk presented and read the following protests from oil
companies in.which objections were -made to -the manner in which the
assessor assessed their properties, especially with regard to the
roylaties paid or to be paid to the State of California:
American Petroleum Corporation,'410 Pacific SW Bldg., Long
Beach, California, not verified.
Richfield Oil Company, 555 So. Flower St., Los Angeles,Calif-
ornia, on behalf of the W K. Company, operators on Lots 14-16-
18 and 20, Block 221, Huntington Beach, 17th Street Section, not
verified.
C. Roy Smith, Attorney, 625 First National Bldg., Long Beach,
representing Ham -mil Oil Corporation, Milton Oil Corporation, M.&
H. 011 Corporation, Montana Petroleum Corporation and Reading Oil
Corporation, not verified.

The following protests were received from persons owning other
real estate and improvements within the City:
Standard Oil Company of California, San Francisco, requested
that their barley field acreage be reduced to $5i0.00 per acre
assessed valuation, not verified.
M, C. Adams, Huntington Beach, asked for lower assessed
valuation on`Lots 11-12-13-14-15-16-17, Block 7d2, V D M and
Lots 5-6-7, Block 801. V.D.M., not verified.
Elmer Lee of Huntington Beach requested that the valuation of
the house located on Lot 13; Block 713, Wesley Perk Addition, be
reduced from the present sum of $110.00 to $80.0i , not verified.

Arthur Marowitz, 1Tf So. ilton Drive, Los Angeles, asked that
the assessed valuation be lowered on Lots 7 to 1;2, inclusive,
Block 2201 and Lots 6 to 21, inclusive, Block 2202, V D.M. Tract,
not verified.
S. Maude Henderson, Ventura, California, asked for a.reduction
in assessed valuation on Lots 14-16-18, Block 20$ and 13-�15, Block
206, not verified. I
Virginia S Hobbs requested a lowering of assessed valuation on
Lot 5, Block 105, not verified.
W, J. Ellery, 534 So. Myrtle St., Monrovia, California, asked
for a reduction in assessed valuation on Lot 16 and the south one-
half of Lot 18, Block 109, also Lots 20 and 22, Block 212, not
verified.
Joseph P, Sweeney, 332 Serrano, Los Angeles, asked for a re-
duction of assessed valuation on Lots 14 to 21, inclusive, Block
1502, V.D.M. Tract, not verified.
S.R.Bowen of Huntington Beach, asked for a reduction of assessed
valuation on Lots 25 and 27, Block 104, not verified.
B. T. Mollica addressed the Council and stated that one of the
two houses owned by him on Lots 11 and 13, BlockJ305, had been moved
and asked that -assessed valuation be reduced accordingly. Mar.
Mollica was informed that on account of the house not having been
moved before the first Monday in March, there co-zld be no reduction
given this year but the same would be taken care of on next year's
assessment roll.
Chairman Talbert suggested and the Members of the Board agreed
that all protests should be taken under advisement until the
meeting of the Board, Monday August 20th,1934,7:00 P.M.
On motion by Warner seconded by Marion, the Board of Equali-
zation adjourned until 10:00 A M Wednes y, August, 15th,1934.
