HomeMy WebLinkAbout1934-08-14326 MINUTES City Hall, Tuesday August 14th, 1934. Pursuant to adjournment of August 13th, 1934, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:15 P M by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Marion, Warner, Talbert, Chamness, Tovatt. Councilmen absent None. Demands On motion by Chamness, seconded by Marion, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. At this time 7:30 P.M. The Mayor declared a recess of the City Recess - Council until 8:30 P M Council was again called to order at 8:30 P.M Councilmen present: Marion, Chamness; Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. Councilmen absent : None. Piano The Clerk read a letter from the Humphrey Music Company of Long Beach, proposing to sell to the City a concert grand piano in good condition for the sum of $350.00. This matter was referred to the . y'-:.Music and Promotion committee for its recommendation. Ord. #375 Ordinance No. 375 uniform building code ordinance, was given its second and final reading at this time by the City Clerk, and, on motion by Marion seconded by Warner, Ordinance No. 374 was passed and adopted by the following vote: w41 AYES: Councilmen Marion,Chamnets,',Warn�r;Tovatt, Talbert. IN NOES: None. r " Ord.#376.-� The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 376, known as the anti -ambulance - 1st reading chasing ordinance, its first reading at this time. pra,-#377-',. Ordinance No. 377, prohibiting the shooting of firecrackers in lst reading r the City was read by the Clerk and referred back to the City Attorney to include the prohibition of both sale and discharge of firecrackers, except on special permission of the City Council, Ord.#378" The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 378, amending drrdinance No.280 1st Reading . covering the prevention of fire in the oil field, its first reading at this time. Reso.#715 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 715, authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into certain agreements necessary to properly make application to the SERA for labor and, -on motion by Chamness, seconded by Tovatt, Resolution No.715 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Marion,Chamness,Tovatt,Talbert,Warner. NOES: None. ABSENT: None. Hotell :Appli- The application of M.V.Cuddeback, for license to operate hotel cation"- approved at 116 Main Street, was approved, on motion by Warner seconded by Chamness. 1 .Y j C W Standard Matter of furnishing tables and other necessary equipment for the picnic Standard Oil Company's employees' picnic, also the use of the ball park on September 8th, was referred to the Beach Committee and Superintendent of Streets with the request that they cooperate with the Standard Oil .Company's employees' committee. City License Mrs. Mary E. Reed addressed the Council and expressed the belief that the city license was too high. Elmer Forney asked the Council why,it was that banks were not required to have a city license. Mayor.Talbert referred the matter to the City Attorney who stated that there was constitutional provisions exempting banks from local license. Oil Lease Mayor Talbert stated that the Council was still considering the matter of leasing the tide lands for oil drilling and that no definite action had been taken.
