The Clerk informed the Board that the following oil companies
were delinquent in the amounts stated opposite their names below
covering personal property and mining right taxes for the year
beginning the first Monday in March, 1934.

The Clerk called attention to the fact that the assessment lists
filed by officers of the above named companies carried- a statement
to the effect that they objected to paying the above amountsbn
account of certain royalties they were paying to the State 6f
California. The Clerk also informed the Council that detailed state.
ments had been sent the above companies calling attention to the
balance due and recommended that immediate action be taken.
City Attorney °veracker advised that bills algain be sent the
above+named companies together with a notice that if they were not
paid immediately, suit would be started to collect.
The Clerk presented and read the following unverified protests:
Western States Drilling Company, 3006 CherryAvenue, Long Beach,
California, Lots 20 and 22, Block 113, claiming exemption based on
payment to State of California 22.1322% of a total production of
100,892 barrels of roil and 102,998 thousand cubic feet of gas.
Tide Petroleum Company, 113 North Atlantic Blvd., Compton,
California,=Lot 4, Block 319, Huntington Beach, 17th Street Section,
claiming exemption based on .the sum of $6,700.00j oil royalty paid.
the State of California from a total production of 64,359.03 barrels
of oil and-20% from 59,565 thousand cubic feet of gas.
Speak Oil Company, 810 Roosevelt Bldg., Los (Angeles, California,
Lots 12 and 14, Block 118, Seventeenth Street Section, Huntington
Beach, claiming exemption based on payment to the State of California
12% of a total production of 165,019.75 barrels of .oil and 20%
from 57,645 thousand cubic feet of gas.
Richfield Oil. Company of California, 555 South Flower Street,
Los Angeles, California, protesting the total payment of $1,235.55-
mineral right taxes on Lots 14,16, 18 and 20, Block 221, Huntington
Beach, 17th Street Section, covering a total production of-183,457
barrels of:oil and 2452334 thousand cubic feet of gas.

claiming exemption based on payment to the Statetof California the sum
of $5,744.09 as a royalty on the production of 38,947 barrels of oil

to go into executive session.

City Attorney Overacker advised the Board that it should derby
all protests and that it should sustain the action of the City
Assessor in all assessments of the year 1934-35.
Following motion by Warner seconded by Chamness: "That the
protest of the Wilshire Oil Company be denied and that the action
of the City Assessor be sustained, and the Wilshire Oil Company
be so notified." Motion put and carried.unanimously.
Following motion by Chamness, seconded by Marion: "That the
protest of the Ambassador Petroleum Company be denied and the
action of the Assessor be sustained and that the Ambassador
Petroleum Company be so notified". Motion put and carried unanimous],g
Following motion by Warner seconded by Marion: "That both
protests of Beloil-Corporation, Ltd., be denied and that the action
of the Assessor be sustained and that the Belol.l Corporation, Ltd.,
be so notified". Motion put and carried unanimously.
Following motion by Chamness, seconded by Warner: "That the
