HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-02-18MINUTES City Hall, Monday February 1'$th,1935- Pursuant to adjournment of February 4th, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P M. by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Talbert,Chamness,Warner,Tovatt. Councilmen absent Marion. Refund by Joseph The Clerk presented and read a letter from the Joseph Rodman Rodman -'Post = Armistice Post with which was enclosed a check for $51.89, same being unused day Celebration _ funds for Armistice Day celebration. On motion by Warner seconded :by, Chamness, the report and check were accepted and ordered filed. Councilman Marion Councilman Marion arrived at this time, 8:00 P.M. arrives - The Clerk read Resolution #721 accepting settlement of taxes of Resolution #721 the Sunset Pacific Oil Company and, on motion by Marion seconded by Chamness, Resolution #721 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Marion, Chmaness, Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. NOES: NONE ABSENT: None. Extermination Mr. McCallen of the Orange County Health Department addressed of rats the Council relative to extermination of rats and recommended that the Council appropriate the sum of $20.00 together with some necessary equipment for the purpose of planting poison in palm trees and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Warner, the Council appropriated $20.00 for the purchase of poison and carrots and instructed the Clerk to purchase the necessary equipment. Gasoline demon- The application of C.P.Ritter Company for permit to construct 't stration plant and operate a gasoline demonstration plant on Lots 19 and 21, Block 116 was ordered laid over until next meeting for further investigation. This, on motion by Marion seconded by Chamness. Paint Horseshoe . Specifications for painting the Horseshoe Club house submitted Club house by City Engineer Overmyer were referred to the building committee for its recommendations. Permission The request of F. P. E Bundy, representing the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the City in parkways Council relative to tree planting in the city parkways and suggested that a planning commission or some similar organization be appointed by the Council to work with the Chamber of Commerce along this line. 38 ­�,5 The matter was taken under advisement until next meeting of the City Council and the City Attorney was directed to look into the legal - questions involved. Demands On motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, demands approved by - the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Water -- line Superintendent of Streets�Wirth informed the Council that the needs renewing American States Water Service.Company's line in the alley extending from Wesley -along Main Street to the intersection of Orange Avenue was in very bad condition and recommended that the company be re- quested to renew the present wooden line. On motion by Chamness 1 seconded:by Marion, the Clerk was directed to write the American States Water Service Company and ask that the line be renewed for ` ----- the protection of streets and alleys. Application for The,application of Mrs. Badovinatz for license to operate a hotel license hotel at 117 Main Street was laid over until next meeting for further investigation, on motion by Warner seconded by Tovatt. H W.Yost made City Engineer Overmyer submitted a written recommendation that deputy Bldg. inspector H. W. Yost be made deputy building inspector and that his salary be -- increased from $125.00 to $145.00 per month and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Marion, the request was granted. Surety bond On.motion by Warner seconded by Chamness, the surety bond of - --A. D. Moody, house mover, was accepted and ordered filed. r' Request denied The Clerk informed the Council that T. J. Bristol had asked that his license for the delivery of gasoline be cancelled for the reason that same amounted to duplicate taxation. On motion by - Marion seconded by Chamness, the request was denied. Lic.Ord .327 to The matter of revising License Ordinance #327 was discussed be revised at length and it was decided to submit the matter to a committee and the city attorney to work out with a view of revising the ordinance to take effect July 1, 1935• Mayor Talbert appointed on the committee Councilmen Warner, Chamness, Tovatt and the city attorney.
