1 MINUTES City Hall, Monday April 29th, 1935• Pursuant to adjournment of April 17th, the City Council met and t was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by the City Clerk. Councilmen present: Chamness, Warner, Tovatt. x Councilmen absent Marion, Talbert. On,motion by.Tovatt seconded by Chamness, Councilman Warner was appointed Mayor pro-tem. The Chair appointed Councilman Tovatt on the Finance Committee. B©y.--Scouts to The Clerk informed the Council that Mr. Honold of the Boy Scouts sell_coffee & sandwicheshad asked permission to let the Boy Scouts sell coffee and sandwiches at Baseball park during the baseball season for the benefit of the Boy Scout,,troops and, "` on:.motion by Chamness eeconded by Tovatt, the request was granted. Play ground on Capt. Sheue of_ .the high school, representing the schools as a Beach, committeeman in connection with the SERA, addressed the Council in behalf of supervised play -grounds. The expense of furnishing the play ground 1 A" -equipment to be born by the City, the SERA Furnishing supervisors. Supervision of Mr. Sheue stated that ordinary supervision could be furnished by playground the SERA.but that they had no one capable of programming the play activities on the beach and suggested that the City Council appropriate whatever is necessary to pay such a supervisor. The matter was referred to the beach committee for its recommendation at next meeting of the City _.....Council. Parking signs In the matter of two hour parking signs on the ocean front, the Comint- derrick Chair instructed the Chief of Police to retain these signs for the summer season. The Clerk read a letter from H. S. Hancock asking.the City Council to change the zoning location from Second to Third Street. After some discussion, on motion by Chamness seconded by Tovatt, the Clerk was in- structed to write Mr. Hancock that to change the zoning location would be contrary to the city ordinances and that, therefore, his request would have to be denied. A letter from Mrs. Leone P. Haslam complaining of a dilapidated wooden derrick located on Lots 1, 2, .3 and 4, Block 109,;owner being McCaslin et al and asking that the Council-proceed7to dismantle the derrick. The matter was referred to the City Attorney and City Engineer for their recommendations. 376 -i Assembly Bill The Clerk read a -letter from the Southern California Oil 686 Producers Association thanking the Council for its action in .4_1opposing Assembly Bill 686. The communication was ordered filed. Grand stand at Councilman Tovatt reported that the expense of extending baseball. { park the wire wings in front of the baseball grand stand would cost $65.63 and, on motion by-Tovatt seconded by Chamness, the Superintendent of Streets was directed to proceed with the work. Mr. Brunner This being the date set for hearing before the Council in the matter of whether or not the Council should cancel the contract between the City and A. E. Brunner, Mr. Brunner was called before the Council. Mr. Brunner addressed the Council and stated that in as much as his contract had not already been cancelled and because of the fact that he had secured a boat costing $13,500.00 he petitioned the Council to allow him to operate boats in accordance with the terms of his present contract. After some discussion, on motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, the hearing was continued until the next. regular meeting of the Council, 7:30 P.M., Monday May 6th, 1935• Mr. Brunner signified his willingness to appear before the Council at that time. Payment to, The matter of payment to John-C. Bauer for repair of the. John C. Bauer' municipal pier was discussed. The City'Clerk presented a letter from the Pan Pacific Piling and Construction Company releasing the city from any claims by them for furnishing Mr. Bauer with lumber and piling and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Tovatt, the City Clerk was instructed to release and forward check to Mr. Bauer in full. Demands On motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, demands approved by the finance committee were ordered paid. On motion by Chamness seconded by Tovatt, Councilman Warner acting as mayor pro®tem was authorized to sign the payroll and other warrants due and payable at this time.
