City Hall, May 20th, 1935.
Pursuant to adjournment of May 6th, the City Clerk
appeared in the Council chamber at 7:30 P.M. and there being
no quorum present, the Clerk adjourned the meeting until 7:30
P.M. Friday May 24th, 1935.

MINUTES
City Hall, Friday May 24th, 1935.
Pursuant to adjournment of May 20th, the Council met and
was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present; Marion,Chamness, Tovatt, Warner, Talbert.
.Councilmen absent : None.
Mr.Stone Resigns The Clerk read a letter from Ormomd A. Stone, consulting
as consulting
engineer engineer, in which Mr. Stone tendered his resignation as consult—
ing engineer for special plans for outfall sewer plant: On motion
by Warner seconded by Chamness, the request was granted. and the
City Attorney directed to draw up the necessary papers for mutual
cancellation of Mr. Stone's contract.
Weed This being the date set for hearing protests against the
Resolution
Council's resolution to abate the weed nuisance, the Clerk informed
the Council that there were no verbal or written protests against
the resolution. On motion by karion seconded by Warner, the
Superintendent of Streets was directed to proceed to abate the
nuisance in accordance with notices posted.
Application — Mr. F. S. Carrie of Currie Engineering Company, 219
Mr. Currie
Anderson Building, San Bernardino, appeared before the Council
and addressed them relative to the designing of a sewage disposal
plant. Mr. Currie stated that their firm had been in business
in California since 1924 and that they had designed twenty sewage
disposal plants and that fifteen were now being built. "'He
presented a proposed agreement in which their company would under—
take to design a plant suitable for Huntington Beach, furnishing
plans and the necessary supervision for 8% of the total cost of
the plant. Mr. Currie's application was taken under advisement.

Mr. Koebig of Koebig and Koebig, consulting engineers,

Application '-
Mr.Koebig Rowan Building, Los Angeles, appeared before the Council and verbally
presented his application for position of consulting engineer in the
construction of the city sewage disposal plant. Mr. Koebig stated
that his was the.oldest firm in Southern California and that they
had had varied experience in designing water plants and sewage disposal
plants. He proposed to design the plant and furnish all necessary
supervision for 8% of the total cost of the plant. His application
was taken under advisement and referred to the sewer committee to
bring in its recommendations at next meeting of the Council.
A.E.Brunner On motion and recommendation by Chamness seconded by Warner,
A.E:Brunner was authorized to continue operation of his live bait
boat,under the terms of his present contract with the City.
4th of July The Clerk read a letter from the Business Men's Association
celebration
and Chamber of Commerce, jointly, asking the City to appropriate
$1500.00 for the Fourth of July celebration. Councilman Marion
stated that,he thought the sum was too great. After some discussion,
on motion by Warner seconded by Tovatt, the Council voted unanimously
to grant $1500.00 towards expense of staging the -Fourth of July
celebration.
Letter of The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce commending
commendation-
0 of C the City Council in its action in endeavoring to secure for the city
oil royalties on account of slant drilling into the tidelands.
Membership On motion by Marion seconded by Tovatt, the Council voted to
defray the $10.00 membership expense for individual membership in the
Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference.
Surety Bord On motion by Marion seconded by Chamness, the surety bond of
Wagner & Woodruff Company, electrical contractors, was accepted and
ordered filed.
Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Tovatt, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Contract The Clerk presented and read a contract with the Associated
Telephone Company giving the City permission to string wires on three
of the telephone poles near the city's beach camp ground and, on motion
by Chamness seconded by Warner, the Mayor and City Clerk were authori-
zed to execute same on behalf of the City.

? Use of Memp On motion by Tovatt seconded by Warner, the application of Mrs.
Hall for 8th
grade Chas. G. Patterson and Mrs. B.-Tinsley for permission to use the
Memorial Hall for the purpose of presenting the 8th grade pupils with
an annual dinner was granted, free of charge.
Ord. #384 The Clerk gave Ordinance #384, reducing derrick license, its
first reading at this time.

Play -ground Engineer Overmyer reported that six SERA men were working on
equipment
the beach front and preparing the grounds for the play -ground equip-
ment to.be installed. He also stated that the Huntington Beach
Company would enter into an agreement with the city to allow play-
ground equipment on their property between the pier and the bath
house providing the city furnished the necessary liability insurance.
Insurance on The Clerk asked the Council if it desired to insure the beach

auto camp play -ground and auto camp grounds. He was directed to secure rates
on liability insurance and report at next meeting.
Supervision of Councilman Chamness asked that the supervision of life guards

be taken from the fire chief and placed under the chief life guard.
Councilman Marion objected on the grounds that in the years past the
fire chief and his department had supervised the life guards and
emergency equipment in a very satisfactory manner. After some further
cisc:issioh=>'_-was -moved" by CYiamnes"d" and seconded by Warner that the
supervision of -life guards be taken from the fire chief and placed
under the chief life guard. Motion put and carried unanimously.
Tree E.B.$tevens informed the Co.ncil that there was a tree located
on Lot 6, Block 705 that needed trimming. Matter was referred to
the Superintendent of Streets.
Orange Co, League Attorney Overacker informed the Council that the Orange County
of Mun. to
meet in League of Municipalities is scheduled to meet in Memorial Hall,
H.B.
Huntington Beach at 6:30 P.M. Thursday June 27th.
On motion by Warner seconded by Tovatt, the Council adjourned.
