HomeMy WebLinkAbout1936-03-06448 r MINUTES City Hall, Friday March 6th, 1936. Pursuant to adjournment of March 2d, the City Council met'and was called to order at 7:30 P.M._by Mayor Talbert. Councilmen present: Marion, Chamness, Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. Councilmen absent None. Application On motion by Marion seconded by Tovatt, the application of A Pearl Meadows to operate restaurant on 18th Street was approved. Resolution #736 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No._736, calling the general municipal election and, on motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, Resolution No. 736 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Marion, Chamness, Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. NOES: None ABSENT: None. Resolution #737 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 737, placing Pro- position No. 1 on the ballot, permitting the City to exceed its 5% limit during 1936-1937 for the purpose of constructing a beach pavilion.. On motion by Marion seconded by Chamness, Resolution No. 737.was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES:,` Councilmen Marion, Chamness, Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. Resolution #738 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 738, placing on the ballot Proposition No. 2, providing for the erection of a beach bowl to cost not to exceed $15,000,00. On motion by Warner seconded by Chamness, Resolution No. 738 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Chamness, Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. NOES: Councilman Marion ABSENT: None. Resolution #739 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 739, placing Pro - Position No. 3 on the ballot, providing for the establishment of Civil Service system for the Police and Fire Departments. On motion by Marion seconded by Tovatt, Resolution No. 739 was passed and .adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Marion, Tovatt, Talbert. NOES: Councilmen Chamness., Warner. ABSENT: None. Resolution #740 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 740, placing Propo- sition No. 4 on the ballot, authorizing the City Council to commence proceedings for the construction or acquisition of a municipal water system. On motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, Resolution No.740 was passed and adopted by the following vote: ; 1 1 AYES: Councilmen Marion, Chamness, Warner, Tovatt, Talbert. NOES: None ABSENT: None. f 49 Water On motion by Warner seconded by Tovatt, the Mayor and City Clerk lines were authorized to execute on behalf of the City a contract between the city and the American States Water Service Company for the in- stallation of water lines and fire hydrants in the oil field district. Motion p4 and carried unanimously. Permits The matter of issuing permits for oil cleaning plants heretofore discussed by the Council was continued for further investigation. Oil After some discussion, the City Attorney, Fire Chief and oil committee were instructed to prepare an ordinance covering the heating of oil within the city -limits and present same at next meeting of the Council. �. Talbert . Councilman Warner informed the Council that he and Engineer Drainage District Overmyer had met with the committee of the Talbert Drainage District and that the attorney and engineer for the drainage district are preparing a contract.to-be submitted to the City Council in connect- ion with drainage from the new outfall sewer plant. That same would be presented -to the Council at its next meeting. On motion by Marion seconded by, Warner, the Council adjourned until 7:30 P. M. Monday March 16th, 1936.
