City Hall, Monday March 16th, 1936
Pursuant to adjournment of March 6th, the City Council
met and was called to order at 7:30 P-M- by Mayor Talbert.
Councilmen present: Marion, Chamness, Tovatt, Warner, Talbert.
Councilmen absent None
Fly casting The Clerk read a letter from the,Chamber of Commerce, D.E.
pool
Burry President, calling attention to the proposed fly casting
pool recommended by Mr. R. G. Miller and asking the City to
support same with funds for construction. The matter was re-
ferred to City Engineer Overmyer to check cost and to invite
interested parties to meet with the Council at its next
meeting.
Fire hydrants in The Clerk read a letter from the American States Water
oil field
Service Company authorizing the city to discontinue the.use of
a number of fire hydrants equal to the new fire hydrants it is
installing in the oil field. The letter was ordered filed with
the American States Water Service Company's agreement.
Chamber of The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce advising
Commerce the Huntington Beach News that the Chamber of Commerce would not
have the funds to pay for a page advertisement in the proposed
Southern California Petroleum Review. Councilman Warner recommended
that the matter be referred back to the Chamber of Commerce with
the request that they refer the matter to their advertising committee
for the purpose of checking as to merits of the proposed page ad-
vertisement and that the Chamber of Commerce be asked to again
_. refer the matter to the City Council with their recommendations.
Application for The application of Myrtle R. Yost for position as supervisor
position as -
supervisor of the beach playground during the summer season was read and
referred to the beach and,pier committee.
A.W Morehouse The Clerk read a letter signed by A.W•Morehouse concerning
efficiency and economy in the city government. Same was ordered
filed.
Beaches Assn A letter from the California Beaches Association inviting
councilmen to a meeting at La Jolla Saturday, March 28th, was
read and referred to the beach committee.
Ora.. #390 - The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 390, regulating the construction
passed and guying of oil derricks, its second and last reading at this
time and, on motion by Marion seconded by Tovatt, Ordinance No.
-M was passed and adopted by the following vote:

Demand On motion by Tovatt seconded by Chamness, demand of the
American States Water Service Company was ordered paid in
accordance with the finance committee's approval.
Officer Keller The Clerk read a letter from Chief of Police Gelzer in -
removed
forming the council that he had removed Officer Keller from
police duties and, on motion by Marion seconded by Tovatt, the
action of the Chief was approved and sustained. Motion put
and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen Marion, Tovatt, Talbert.
NOES: Councilmen Chamness, Warner.
H F Robidoux The recommendation of Chief Gelzer to reinstate Officer H.F.
appointed
Robidoux in the position of Motorcycle Officer #2 was read and,
on motion by Yfarion seconded by Chamness, the Chief's request was
granted and H. F. Robidoux employed at a salary of 170.00 per
month beginning March 8th, 1936. Robidoux to serve during the
pleasure of the Chief and City Council.
Officer Belshe's The recommendation of Chief Gelzer that Officer BelsheIs

increased salary be increased to 170.00 per month beginning April lst,
1936 was read and, on motion by Tovatt seconded by Warner, same
was ap, .)roved.
Sewage disposal Engineer Overmyer stated that active work had been started
plant
on the site of the new sewage disposal plant as of Friday March 13th,
1936.
Gambling Councilman Warner made inquiry concerning "The new gambling house".
house
closed Chairman Talbert stated that the police commission had ordered the
place closed and that he believed the order had been carried out.
On motion by Warner seconded by Chamness, the Council adjourned.
