City Hall, Monday May 25th, 1936
Pursuant to adjournment of May 18th, 1936, the Council was called
to order at 7:30 P M by the City Clerk.
Councilmen present: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson.
Councilmen absent Warner, Chamness.
In the absence of Mayor Warner, on motion by Henrickson seconded
by Morehouse, Councilman Talbert was appointed mayor pro tem.
The application of R- B. Harris for work in the street department
was referred to the Superintendent of Streets and the Street Committee.
The application of Mamie Whisnant for position as beach playground
supervisor was read and referred to the Beach and Pier Committee.
The application of James Farquhar, Jr. for position as life guard
was read and referred -to the Beach and Pier Committee.
The written request of Delbert Higgins, captain of the life guards,
for permission to employ four life guards regularly six days per -week
was read and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, referred
to the Beach and Pier Committee for their recommendation.
The Clerk read a letter from A. D. Wilder, State Director of PWA,
relative to the status of Calif. 1167 Beach Pavilion and he was
instructed by the Council to write the PWA and inform them that
plans for the above named project were approximately-50/1',,' complete
and upon notice of allotment plans and specifications could be
complete within three weeks and work started within eight weeks
and that labor applications on the local relief roll are sufficient
to supply the necessary labor for the project.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the City Engineer
was directed to prepare and post three sets of rules onthe municipal
pier in accordance with the provisions of City Ordinance.
- At this time 8:10 P.M Mayor Warner arrived and took his seat.
The Clerk read applications.of_H B. Carr and True M. Cryder.,
jointly, L. F. Keller, W S Ebert of Huntington Beach and M. M.
Waterman and E 0. Smith of Seal Beach for permits to operate
tango and chip games. Same were ordered filed.
Councilman Henrickson suggested that the Fire Chief be made
inspector of fire hazards in the oil fields and that the building
inspector be required to furnish the Fire Chief with a copy of
all applications for building permits., The matter was referred
to the City Attorney and Oil Committee to prepare the necessary
regulations and present to the Council.

Auto Taxes

Attorney OveracI�er referred to case now pending in Los Angeles in
which the City of Los Angeles is endeavoring tt enforce payment by the
State of the 40% auto taxes due the cities and suggested that the City
Attorney be instructed to join other city attorneys in the case and on
motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, City Attorney Overacker was
authorized to join Los Angeles in a;suit to compel the State to pay
the cities the 40 o allocation of auto taxes. Same to be without cost
to the City of Huntington Beach.
Weeds This being the date set for hearing objections to the Council's
Resolution to abate the weed nuisance, the Clerk informed the Council
that neither verbal or written.objections had been received. The Mayor
asked if any one present had any objections, there being none, on motion
by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the City Council authorized and
directed the Superintendent of Streets to proceed to abate the weed
-� nuisance in accordance with resolution heretofore passed and that the
cost be assessed against the property in accordance with law.
Trees Councilman Morehouse called attention to trees on Main and other
--i streets that needed pruning. The matter was referred to the Superin-
tendent of Streets with instructions to proceed at any time after

June 15th. •
Dead Seals - At the request of Mr. Lawshe, Manager of the Huntington•Beach
ordered
buried Company, the City Council instructed the Superintendent of Streets
to bury any dead seals that may be thrown on the beach inside of the
city limits. Authority was given on motion by Henrickson seconded
by Talbert, put and carried.
Sump hole - Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that the owners of an

open sump hole at loth and Olive had been asked to build a barricade
around the sump hole.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the Council adjourned.
