HomeMy WebLinkAbout1936-08-19MINUTES City Hall, Wednesday Aug. 19th, 1936. Pursuant to adjournment of August loth, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P..M by Mayor Warner. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Warner. Councilmen absent : Henrickson. The Chair appointed Councilman Talbert on the Finance Committee in the absence of.Councilman Henrickson. Chamber of The Clerk read a contract between the City and the Chamber of Commerce Commerce covering advertising and other services to be rendered by the Chamber of Commerce for the fiscal year and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute same on behalf of the City. Law books On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the City Controller was authorized to -purchase a volume entitled "Municipal Tort Liability". This upon request of City Attorney Overacker. City Directories The Clerk informed the Council that Mr. Dawson who compiled the city directory had left 100 copies with the city and 100 copies with the Chamber of Commerce and had presented a bill in the amount of $100.00 to help defray expense of publishing. After some discussion, on motion by Morehouse seconded by Talbert, the Council voted to appropriate $50.00 for the directories. Surety bonds - The Clerk presented surety bonds of the Ansco Construction Ansco Const. Co.. Company in the amount of $4,120.00 material bond and $8,240.00 for faithful performance of the contract, same having been approved as to form by the City Attorney and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the above bonds were accepted and ordered filed and the city Clerk was authorized to return to the Ansco Construction _.Company their bidder's check in the amount of $850.00. Two Macks Elec. On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the surety bond Co. of The Two Macks Electric Company was accepted and ordered filed. Audit The Clerk informed the Council that the special audit by R. D. Crenshaw and Company had been completed and two copies were on file in the Clerks office and open to inspection. The reports were accepted and ordered filed. Ord. #393 - The Clerk gave Ordinance #393, changing the city fire zone; First reading its first reading at this time. Ord. #394 - First The Clerk gave Ordinance #394, regulating the construction of reading garage buildings, its first reading at this time. 1 1 it 1 Y J •1 1 Planning After some discussion, Mayor Warner instructed the City Attorney Commission to draft an ordinance creating a planning commission and submit to the Council for its action. Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Live bait Attorney Overacker informed the Council that C K. Morrison had;not boat yet executed the new contract covering operation of live bait boat. The matter was referred to the beach and pier committee for its investigation and recommendation. On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney was authorized to record satisfaction of judgment covering property being purchased for the improvement of Frankfort Street.
