HomeMy WebLinkAbout1937-02-01F C MINUTES City Hall, Monday, February 1, 1937. `I The regular meeting, of the City Council was called to order at l_ 7-:30 p.m. by Mayor Warner. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, Warner. Councilmen absent Chamness. Minutes On notion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, Minutes for the month of January were approved as read. P.O.Sign at On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the request of the Main & Ocean Chamber of Commerce to have a djgA placed at the intersection of Ocean C� Avenue and Main Street indicating the location of the postoff ice was referred to the City Engineer with instructions to consult the Automobile Club of Southern California regarding cost of such a sign. Weed cleaning - The protest of Julia Bacon against weed cleaning charge on Lots 13 Lots 13-15, 619 and 15, Block 619 was referred to the City Engineer to investigate and a report his recommendations at next meeting. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Controller was Maps of, City authorized to purchase one thousand small maps from the Long Beach Blue Print Company at a total cost of ti$55.50. Fly casting A letter from the Chamber of Commerce urging the Council to start Pool construction of the fly Casting pool was ordered filed and the Clerk directed to inform the Chamber of Commerce that the work would be under way in the very near future. Additional A letter from the Chamber of Commerce recorimending additional lighting on Main St. lighting in the business section -of Main Street was referred to the City Engineer to investigate and report back to the City Council. Letter of cornrzendation The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce commending � the Fire Chief and the Fire Department for their efficient work in I handling the fire at 16th Street and Ocean Avenue on January 31st. Lease - On motion by Morehouse seconded by Henrickson, the Mayor and City Parking, strip Clerk were authorized to execute lease of the Pacific Electric Railway Company covering parking strip adjoining the city camp ground. Sea Scouts On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the Council voted to waive rent on the Memorial Hall Friday January 29th, for the Sea Scouts and Rotary Club. Monthly The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer, reports Superintendent of Streets, City Judge, and Chief of Police and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, same were accepted and ordered filed. tj Page 2, Minutes Feb.l, 1937• Bids on The Clerk informed the Council that this was the date set Gasoline 1� by notice to receive and open bids for furnishing the City with gasoline during the ensuing year. Following bids were read by the Clerk: i Gilmore Oil Company - 12-124 per gallon. - Shell Oil Company - 1220 per gallon. - General Petroleum Corp. - 122¢ per gallon Richfield Oil Company - 122¢ per gallon.. Associated Oil Company - 122¢ per gallon. - Rio Grande Oil Company - 122¢ per gallon..: 2 I Standard Oil Company - 122¢ per gallon. - Union Oil Company - 122¢ per gallon. Award of On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the award was given to contract the Standard Oil Company for the period February lst, 1937 to January i 31 st, 1938. Adv. for bids On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the City Clerk for oil & grease was directed to advertise for bids to furnish the City with lubri- cating oil and grease for the ensuing year, March 1st, 1937 to i o February 28th, 1938. Resolution #768- The Clerk read Resolution No. 768, waiving delinquent taxes Del. -taxes on lots owned by on Lots 19 and 20, Block 602, Vista Del Mar Tract, now owned by County o the County of Orange and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, Resolution No. 768 was passed and adopted by the following vote: 0 AYES: Councilmen Morehouse, Henrickson, Talbert, Warner. NOES: Councilmen - None. ABSENT: Councilman Chamness. WPA Recreational Mayor Warner informed the Council that the City had been activities �. J requested to stand a part of the expense of the WPA recreational activities and suggested that the request be granted in an amount not to exceed $25.00 and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Engineer was directed to cooperate with the WPA Recreation Department, labor and expense not to exceed $25.00 for needed equipment. . o Pine tree - Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that a Pine tree in 6th & Olive the parking at 6th Street and Olive Avenue has done considerable damage to the sidewalk and street and suggested that the tree D would probably have to be removed. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the matter was left to the discretion of the Engineer with permission to remove the tree if found necessary. D Page 3, Minutes Feb. 1, 1937• r T--� cr .., 1, c i t Im c ��, r- ,, 4 Pier landing, Chris Enholm addressed the Council and asked permission to submit a written application for the privilege of using the pier landing to load and unload passengers to and from a fishing barge. He informed the Council that his equipment was of the best and that he would be in a position to render satisfactory service. The Council informed Mr. Enholm that it would receive his application. Demands On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
