City Hall, Monday May 17th, 1937
Pursuant to adjournment of May loth, the City Council met and
was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Warner.
Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner.
Councilmen absent Talbert.

Loud speaker for
Mr. Foster of the Foster Barker Music Company of Santa Ana
Memo. hall
addressed the Council and gave a de.scription of the varibus�'types
of loud speakers proposed to be installed in Memorial Hall, prices
as follows:
No. 1 Equipped $763.16
No. 2 Equipped 596.15
No. 3 Equipped 490.30
The Council took the matter under advisement until later in the
evening.
Fishing barge
C. K. Morrison addressed the Council saying it was impossible
for him to get the large type of fishing barge but that he expected
to have the smaller barge in operation by Wednesday May 26th. This
barge will accommodate approximately one hundred fishermen but would

not fully take care of all the business, he said.
Trailer Convention The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce asking
that the City appropriate the sum of $$150.00 to apply on expense of
staging the Trailer Convention the latter part of May and, on motion
by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the Council appropriated a sum
not to exceed $$150.00 for this purpose.
Sewing project
- The Clerk informed the Council that it would be necessary to
new quarters
ask the WPA to move their sewing project from the City Hall building,,

so as to take care of an office for the city attorney and a larger
office for the judge. The Clerk read a letter from Mr. Jayne,
Assistant Supervisor of WPA District No. 12, in which the City was
asked to bear part of the expense of the rental of the new quarters
and to assist in furnishing the quarters by loaning the administration
a few chairs and some tables and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by

Chamness; the Council voted to furnish chairs and tables and to assist
in taking care of rental charge for 500 of the rental in no event to
exceed the sum of $$20.00 per month. This arrangement subject to the
pleasure of the City Council on a month to month basis with a minimum
of three months to begin with. Motion put and carried unanimously.
Sea Scouts
On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the Memorial Hall

charge for the Sea Scouts on April 24th were ordered cancelled.
Memo, Hall
The Clerk called the attention of the Council to an application
on file for reservation of Memorial Hall Friday nights commencing
June loth and continuing until September 17th to stage dances.

After some discussion, the Council was unanimous in the belief
that the hall should not be tied up.for so long a time by one
organization.
Beach Pavilion
The Clerk read a letter addressed to Mayor Warner and

signed by Harry R. Sheppard, Congressman of the 19th District
_
of California, to the effect that a bill was ers being introduced
which would enable the United States government to furnish
money to complete projects which would include the proposed
'
beach pavilion. The Mayor was authorized to reply to the
I
letter and the Clerk ordered to file the letter and resolution.

5% limitation act
Mayor Warner stated that there was a new 5% limitation act
up before the Legislature but that he had not yet received de-
finite information regarding the bill.
State parks
Ilayor Warner also stated that the Legislature was taking
some action relative to funds for acquisition and maintenance
o
of state parks and that the revenue was to be derived from
surplus created in projects similar to proposed State oil develop-
ment in Huntington Beach.
Adv. bill allowed
On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the Council

voted to pay the $150.00 advertising bill of the Huntington
Leach News.
Demands
On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, demands
approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Loud speaker for
The matter of purchasing a loud speaker for the Memorial
Memo hall
Hall was again taken up by the Council. The following motion
by Councilman Chamness: "That the City purchase an RCA loud
speaker from the Foster Barker Iltusic Company of Santa Ana at

a total cost of $596.15, fully equipped, installed and inspected,
provided that the Foster Barker Music Company give the City Council
a written guarantee that the equipment will operate satisfactorily,
in the Memorial Hall and that same be installed complete by May 28th,
1937." Motion seconded by Henrickson, put and carried unanimously.
Cleaning Lots
Councilman Morehouse asked what the average cost of cleaning
lots in the City had been in the past. Engineer Overmyer stated
that the average cost was about $2.00 per lot.
Telephone in life
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the City Engineer

guard station
'
was directed to order telephone removed from the end of the old pier
and the end of the new addition and to install a telephone in the
life guard station on the first T of the municipal pier.

Rescue squad The Clerk read a letter from the Southern Counties Gas
commended
Company commending the rescue squad of the Fire Department for
saving the life of P.W.Campbell who was overcome by gas fumes
recently. The letter was ordered filed.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the Council
adjourned.
