met and was called to order

New Buick Sedan
- Upon recommendation
of the Chief of
Police and the Police
Police Dept.
Committee, the City Controller
and the Chief
of Police were
authorized to purchase a 37-61 Buick sedan
from Terry's Service
Station and Garage for the
sum of~$1,493.48
less trade in of the
City's used Buick,$475.00,
net $1,018.48.
The authorization was
made on motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickeon,
put and carried.

Assignment of The Clerk read an assignment by C..K. Morrison of his
Contract interest in and to certain contract with the City of Huntington
Beach dated the 21st day of May, 1934. Same being assigned to
Ocean Sport Fishing, Inc. and, on motion by Talbert seconded by

Henrickson, the assignment was received and ordered placed
on file.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the applica®

tion of W. J. Bernhardt for license to operate a merchandising
concession at No. 7 Pavilion building was accepted and the
Clerk directed to issue the license as soon as Chief of Police
Grant gives his approval.
Application On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the ap-
plication of Fred Pearce to operate smoked fish sales stand
in the ticket office at the end of the pier was granted with
the provision that no space other than the ticket office be
taken by Mr. 3earce.
Mrs.'Newl.and On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the
Deputy Collector
appointment of Helen-N. Newland as Deputy Collector by City
Collector Grant was confirmed.
Application The application of Herbert L. Grassmulck for position as
municipal trailer park manager was ordered filed.
Lots--,--,,- The Clerk read a_ letter from Chester Osgood, .1951 Pacific
Mr. Morehouse appointed
a Committee of one Avenue, Long Beach, offering to sell the City Lots 14, 16 and 18,
Block 504, Main Street Section for the sum of $1500.002also a
letter from G. 0. Gerry offering to sell the City Lots 19 and
21, Block 504, Main Street Section for the sum of $$2000.00. The
offers were ordered placed on file and Councilman Morehouse made
a committee of one to secure prices on other property between the
intersection of Fifth and Main Street and the intersection of
Frankfort Street and Alabama Avenue and report back to the Council.
Grocery Store at On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, Mrs. Beulah
camp ground
Westmoreland was given permission to operate a grocery store in
the municipal auto camp for a rental charge of $30.00 per year
for a period of one year with an option to renew for a period of
two years at a rental to be agreed upon by the City Council.
Lease on above The City Attorney was asked to prepare a lease on the

Recreation supervisor On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, Glen Shafer was
employed as recreation supervisor at a salary of $100.00 per month
for the month of July, August and one-half of September.
Planning Commission Mayor Warner informed the Council that he had appointed,

effective July 1, 1937, the following members'Ias a planning com-
mission board:
A. F. Wilson and L. E. Worthy to serve one year.
W. J. Bristol and J. F. Catching to serve two years.
W.'R.'Osborn to serve three years.
S. R. Bowen to serve four years.
Harry A. Overmyer, City Engineer, Thos. H. Kuchel, City Attorney,
and A. L. HenVickson, City Councilman, to serve during the pleasure
of the City Council. The appointments were approved on.motion by

,2 On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the Streets
and Parks and Beach and Pier committees were authorized to work
i
out a plan and submit prices for additional play ground equipment.
White line
Councilman Henrickson asked that a white line be placed in
the center of Main Street at the turn between Orange and Magnolia
Avenues. He was informed by the City Engineer that.a line would
`
be painted in the near future.
Ins.policy
City Attorney Kuchel was asked to examine the insurance
policy of Ocean Sport Fishing, Inc. and report back to the Council
his opinion on whether or not same would be for the best interest
of the City and in accordance with provisions contained in the
assigned contract of C. K. Morrison.
Agreement
The Clerk read an agreement between the City and L. G. Barker
giving Mr. Barker permission to use the municipal pier landing for.
loading and unloading passengers for a period ending December 31, 1937,
and on motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the Mayor and City
Clerk were authorized to execute same on behalf of the City of Hunt-
ington Beach.
Demand On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, demand of Joseph
Rodman Post for $125.00 to help defray expense of American ;;.Legion
Pilgrimage in July was approved and ordered paid.
Errington trans- On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, and on recommendation
ferred to Police
Dept. of Chief of Police Grant, E. Errington was transferred from the Street
Department to the Police Department at a salary of $125.00 per month, to
-serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council.
Unsafe derrick City Attorney Kuchel informed the Council that all the necessary
i
preliminary action for the demolition of a derrick located at Ninth and
Ocean had been taken and the proper notices been posted but recommended
that if the building inspector felt that the derrick is safe, that no
action be taken until the conclusion of a suit in court or for a period
r '
not exceeding ten days from this date.
Floor covering The matter of installing floor covering in the Memorial Hall
was deferred until next meeting of the Council.
