Pursuant to adjournment of

City Council met and was

by Mayor

Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner.
Councilmen absent Talbert.
Richfield Oil The matter of allowing the Richfield Oil Company to use the street

near the intersection of Palm Avenue and 13th Street.for loading was
taken under advisement with a view of substituting the alley instead of
the street.
Argument on The Clerk read an argument headed "Argument in Favor of Proposition
Prop.I and
Prop.11 No. land Proposition No. III' and signed by E. E. Beatty, circulator of
petition to place Proposition I and Proposition II on the ballot, also a
letter signed by Mr. Beatty addressed to'the City Council requesting that
the above named argument be placed on sample ballots and regular ballots.
The matter was discussed at some length by the City Council and the City
Attorney was asked whether or not the argument could be placed on the
ballot. City Attorney Kuchel advised the Council that it was his opinion
that the time had passed and called attention to the wording.of the
election laws covering the submission of arguments. Whereupon the follow-
ing motion was made by Councilman Chamness: "That the request of Mr.
Beatty be denied for the reason that the City Council knew of no legal
means whereby the argument could be placed on the ballot". Motion
seconded by Henrickson, put and carried by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen - Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner.
NOES: Councilmen ® None
ABSENT: Councilman - Talbert.

Argument The City Clerk presented and read an argument against the placing of

Proposition No. I and Proposition No. II on the ballot for the coming
election of August 3rd. The following motion by Henrickson: "That the
argument in opposition to Proposition No. I and Proposition No. II be
placed on the ballot". Motion seconded by Councilman Chamness, put and
carried by the following vote:

AYES: Councilmen - Morehouse,'Chamness, Henrickson.
NOES: Councilmen - Warner.
ABSENT: Councilmen e Talbert.
Carefohief or The Clerk read a letter from Fire Chief Sargent asking permission to
turn the car used by him over to the street department. The request was
laid over until next meeting of the Council and Fire Chief Sargent directed
to secure prices from the various dealers in Huntington Beach for a new
` car for his department.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the Council adjourned -
until 7:20 P.M. Monday July 12, 1937.
