Pursuant to statutes and the Charter of the City of Huntingt©n Beach, The City Councilmen met as a Board of Equalization and were called to order.by Chairman Warner at 7:30 P.M., Monday, July 12th, 1937. Members present: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Henrickson, Warner. Members absent None. The Clerk informed the Board that no written or verbal protests had been.filed or received except that of a repre-- o-entative"of the Tax Department of the Standard. Oil Company against assessments levied on acreage belonging to the Huntington Beach Company. The Clerk informed the Board that the Assessor had reduced 'assessed valuations on this property from $1200.00 an acre in 1925 to 4400.00 an acre in 1937. After some discussion, on motion by Henrickson ,seconded by Morehouse, the,Board voted unanimously to sustain all assessments in the City of Huntington Beach as made by the City Assessor as of the first Monday in hnarch, 1937. Councilmen present: Morehouse,Talbert, Henrickson, Warner. Councilmen present:Morehouse,Chamness,Talbert,Henrickson, Warner. Councilmen absent :None. • o H R.Bill The Clerk read a letter from the League of. Municipalities urging #7186 the City Council to wire or write the representatives in Congress and urge their support of H.R.Bill No. 7186, permitting cities to collect interest from banks in which city funds are regularly deposited and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Clerk was directed to wire Senator McAdoo and Congressmen Thomas F. Ford and Harry Sheppard in accordance with the Leagues request. Letter from State Board of Equal. A letter from the State Board of Equalization asking permission to use an office in the city hall for meetings to investigate applica- tions to sell alcoholic beverages was referred to the City Clerk with instructions to inform the Board that it will be permissible to use - the City Hall Council Chamber. De Guel3vls contract -The City Attorney was handed a copy of James De Guellets lease contract and asked to prepare a new contract and submit at next meeting of the Council. D
