HomeMy WebLinkAbout1937-09-07MINUTES 107 c City Hall, Monday, Sept. 7th, 1.937 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by 'Mayor Warner. Councilmen present: Warner, Morehouse, Henrickson. (Councilman Talbert arrived at 7:50 P.M.) Councilmen absent Chamness. Minutes The Clerk called the Council's attention to two corrections made in the minutes for the month of August and, on motion by Henrickson seconded r, by Morehouse, minutes for the month of August were approved as read. Monthly :The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City reports Collector, Building Inspector, Chief of -Police 'and City Judge, and, on motion ,.� by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, same were accepted and ordered filed. Letter of commendation The Clerk read a letter from Mary L. Johansen commending the Council and employees of the City for the manner in which the auto camp was managed. The communication was ordered filed and the Clerk directed to answer same. Application On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the application of the approved Richfield Oil Corporation for permit to construct and operate wholesale I r, gasoline plant at the northeast corner of Lake Avenue and Atlanta Street was accepted and approved. Chief Grant On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, Chief of Police Grant was to attend Peace Offi- authorized to attend the annual Peace Officers' Convention at Oakl �,ept- cers' Conv. ember 16th,_17th and l8th, the City to pay'Chief Grant's necessary expenses on the trip. � Invitation to ` City Council The Clerk read a letter from the Huntington Beach Fly and Bait Casting Club inviting the Council and city officials to attend a reception given for Dick Miller at Lake dark September 12th. The Clerk was directed to reply and U state most of the officials would be at the League of Municipalities meeting in San Jose at that time. Ord.#404 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 404, relating to elections, its second and passed final reading at this time and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, Ordinance No. 404 was`passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, Warner. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilman Chamness. C.of C.report The Clerk presented and read a report from the Chamber of Commerce 4th of July . . . covering receipts and expenditures during the July 4th celebration, also a check for $9.46 refund was.delivered to the City. The communication was `. accepted and ordered filed. Elec.Bond On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the electrical bond of the t approved Two Macks Electric Company was accepted and ordered filed. Deputy City On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the appointment of Helen Clerk R. Axton as deputy city clerk by City Clerk C.R.Furr for the period Sept- ember 7th to 30th, inclusive, was ratified by the City Council. LM " 7, 937. Page 2 - Minutes Se t, 1 g p Audit The Clerk read a letter from Crenshaw, Diehl and Edwards, certi®`'t:::1 fied public accountants, 315 First National Bank Bldg., Santa Ana, proposing to audit the City's books at the rate of $15.00 per diem and at a total cost not to exceed $350.00, audit to cover period July 1st, 1936 to June 30th, 1937 and, on motion by Talbert seconded I by Henrickson, the Clerk was directed to notify Mr. Crenshaw to begin the audit on or about November lst, 1937. Directory Mr. Warner informed the Council that Mr. Sam Dawson was compiling a new Huntington Beach directory and enlarging it to cover the district surrounding Huntington Beach and recommended that the City assist in the cost of the publication: On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Council appropriated -the sum of $50.00 for copies of the directory to be used in the city departments. Alpha Beta Mkt. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the application of the Alpha Beta Market to cut sidewalk leading to the vacant lot next to their store was denied. Chas. Ward On motion -by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the application of Chas. Ward to,install a small underground gasoline tank on his property at 5th and Orange was accepted and the building department directed to grant a permit providing the construction complied with city ordinances and is installed under the direction of the City Building Inspector. Heavy traffic The matter of directing heavy traffic over certain streets in the city was continued until next meeting of the City Council. a Sign at Five City Engineer Overmyer was directed to secure an estimate of Points cost of installingaa sign at Five Points with an electric light re- flector, also a reflector type sign and submit to the Council at its next meeting. Recreation bldg.- Engineer Overmyer submitted plans for a new recreation building Lake Park at Lake Park. The matter was taken under advisement until next meeting of the Council. Wm. E. Rardin- On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the appointment Fire Dept. by the Fire and Police Committee of Wm. E. Rardin in the regular Fire Department at a salary of $135.00 beginning September lst was approved. Demands On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
