MINUTES

T _ City Hall, Monday, November 29,1937-
Pursuant to adjournment of November 23rd, the City Council met
and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Warner.
Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner.

Councilmen absent: Talbert.
Lights
Pursuant to request of property owners and to recommendations of

Engineer Overmyer, the Council directed the Engineer,to install a
goose neck light at the northwest corner of Lake and loth Street
.
intersection and a center light to be placed at 'tlie alley between
Main and Lake on loth Street. This on motion by Chamness seconded
by Henrickson.
13th Street storm
The Clerk readletter from A. L. Gabrielson informing the
drain completed

Council that he had completed his contract for the installation of

a storm drain on 13th Street of this date. 'The letter was ordered
filed.

The Clerk read a letter from City Engineer Overmyer informing
accepted
the Council that the 13th Street storm drain had been completed by

Contractor A. L. Gabrielson and recommended that the'Council accept
the completed work and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness,

the Council voted to accept the lath Street storm drain improvement as

of November 29th, 1937, and the City Clerk was directed to record
notice of completion.

Christmas fund
.'A request from the Chamber of.Commerce for an appropriation of

$300.00 to.cover decorating expense during the Christmas season was
read and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the Council
appropriated the sum of $300.00 to be allocated to the Chamber of

Commerce, same to cover the City's entire amount for Christmas
decorating and purchase of supplies.

Block 811
A recommendation from the Chamber of Commerce that Block 811
be either purchased by the City or cleaned up by the owners was
read to the Council and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson,
the Clerk was directed to write a letter to the Huntington Beach
Company asking them to clean up the Block.
Floor covering-
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the City Engineer
Fire, Dept..

was authorized to install floor covering in the office of the Fire

Department at a cost of approximately $50.00.
Bids on roof .of
City Engineer Overmyer was directed to get informal bids for
city hall bldg.
renewing the roof of the city hall building and submit same Monday night,
December 6th;meeting.
Beach Pavilion
The Clerk read a letter from Walker & Eisen, architects, in
which they informed the City Council that the Federal Emergency

C Administration of Public Works had accepted the bid of Brunzell and
Jacobson, 2150 Princeton Avenue, Los Angeles, for the construction of
a beach pavilion and civic auditorium. The letter was ordered filed.
Resolution
Reno The Clerk'read Resolution No. 790, same being resolution of the
#790City Council of the City of Huntington Beach awarding contract to
Brunzell and Jacobson for the construction of a beach pavilion and, on
motion by Councilman Chamness seconded by Councilman Henrickson, Reso-
lution No. 790 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen - Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner.
NOES: Councilmen - None
ABSENT: Councilmen - Talbert.
Beach Pavilion The Clerk presented and read an agreement between the City.Council
& Civic Audit.

Chamness seconded by Councilman Henrickson, the Mayor and City Clerk

Beach and forward to the Federal Emergency Administration of Public
Works at San Francisco for their approval. Motion put and carried

The following motion by Councilman Chamness: "That the City Clerk

be authorized to return certified checks to all bidders for the -construct-
ion of beach pavilion and civic auditorium upon the report and approval
by the City Attorney of the faithful performance and material and labor
bonds of Brunzell and Jacobson and signing and execution of the contract
by the City and contractor." Motion seconded by Henrickson, put and
carried unanimously. _:-

the City Treasurer and City Clerk were authorized and directed to transfer
from the General Fund to a fund to be known as "Construction P71A Calif.
1167-DS", the sum of $30,0000.00 for the purpose of making payments in the
construction of a.beach pavilion and civic auditorium. Motion put and
carried unanimously.
The request of C. P. Pann that he be allowed a vacation with pay was
approved on motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse.
On -motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the Chief of Police was
authorized to remove stop sign from Wesley Avenue at Main Street and place
same on 17th Street at Main Street.
The Chief of Police and City Attorney were directed to prepare an
ordinance covering all stop signs now installed in the City.

Slow signs I On motion by Chamness,seconded by Morehouse, the Chief of
Police was directed to paint 15 mile slow signs at the inter-
sections of 7th and Walnut, 7th and Olive and 6th and Orange.
Sidewalks The City Clerk was directed to write a letter to the
Huntington Beach Company thanking them for the installation of
sidewalk along the westerly side of Main Street between loth and
Wesley..
Lights on Engineer -Overmyer informed the Council that it would cost
Ocean Ave.
approximately $1.05 per light per month to operate the 2000 lames
lights on Ocean Avenue between 3rd and 5th Streets. Action on the
matter was deferred.
-On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the Council
adjourned.
