Pursuant to adjournment of December 13th, the City Council was called..

to order by Mayor Warner.

New Year's
Upon motion by Henrickson, seconded by Morehouse,,request of the
editioh. -
H.B.News
Huntington Beach News for page advertisement in issue of their New Year's
edition on December 29th, by the City at a cost of $150.00, was granted.
The Clerk was instructed to prepare the advertisement.
WPA
The Clerk read a letter from Henriette Stowell, Supervisor Coast
t
District, W.P.A. Recreation Project, asking that the city help in the,
purchase of incidental materials needed in craft work, to the extent of
5.00 per month. Upon motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the
request was referred to the Park Committee with power to act.
Block
The Clerk read letter from James S. Lawshe regarding complaint as to

condition of Block 811, as to rubbish, etc. The letter was ordered filed.
Neon sign
The request of the Union Oil Company to erect Neon sign at 409 Walnut,
.in accordance with diagram submitted and as approved by the City Engineer,
was granted, upon motion by Henrickson, seconded by Morehouse.

Chamness
At this time, 7:45 P.M., Councilman Chamness arrived.

Neon sign
The application of the Union Oil -Company to erect Neon sign at First
and Ocean was denied on motion by Henrickson; seconded by Morehouse, the
objection being proposed location of the sign.

Les Farrar was granted permission to erect'Neon sign at 424 Main Street,
upon his application as approved by the City Engineer, this by motion of t
Henrickson, seconded by_Chamness.
Roxie Theater'
The application,as approved by the City Engineer, of L. N. King and
Neon sign
Siler, to install Neon signs and tubing on three sides of•marquee at Roxie
Theater, 121 - 5th Street, was granted on motion by Morehouse, seconded by

License
The Clerk presented and read application of Grover C. Pounds for license
denied-

conduct the business of Forwarding Agency, Pari-Mutual, at 406 Ocean Ave.

The City Attorney stated that in his belief, Section 6 of Ordinance 9, pro-
hibits this business. After some discussion, application for license was
denied, upon motion_by Morehouse, seconded by Henrickson.
Sidewalks
Councilman Morehouse stated that two owners of property on Second Street,
between Walnut and Ocean, on West side of Street, would like sidewalks to be
installed. The matter was referred to the City Attorney and City Engineer to

report back as to procedure necessary so that the owners may be advised as to
action they should take to procure sidewalks,

Fire Ins. - The matter of fire insurance on Beach Pavilion and Recreation
Building in Lake Park, construction of which buildings is now
under way, was taken under advisement until next meeting.
Ord..#405 The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 405, amending Ordinance No. 322,
passed
relating to and regulating traffic, its second reading, and on
motion by Chamness, seconded by Henrickson,.Ordinance No. 405
was adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmen Henrickson, Morehouse, Chamness, Warner.
NOES: Councilmen - none
ABSENT: Councilman Talbert.
Demands On motion by Chamness, seconded'by Henrickson, demands as
approved'by the Finance Committee, were ordered paid.
Nr.Westmoreland Mr. Westmoreland was present and asked the Council as to
their decision in the matter of alterations on store building at
camp ground. Councilman Chamness of the Beach.Committee, said
that his committee was not ready to report. Upon motion of
Henrickson, seconded by Chamness, the matter was left in the hands
of the Beach Committee for their recommendation at the next meeting
of the Council.
Beach Pavilion Councilman Chamness reported that he had conferred with Mr.
Eisen, with the Contractor and with P.W.A. representative, and that
the meeting in January would be early enough for action on change o.
orders for Beach Pavilion.
Upon motion by Chamness, seconded by Henrickson, council
adjourned.
