HomeMy WebLinkAbout1938-02-28156 MINUTES City Hall, Monday, Feb. 28, 1938 Pursuant to adjournment of February 21, 1938, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Warner. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner. Councilmen absent: Talbert. Application for Councilman Morehouse stated that he had heard that H. B. Carr had • beer license withdrawn withdrawn his application for beer license at 214 - 5th Street and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the City Attorney was autho- rized to write the Board of Equalization in the matter of the protest of the City Council of Huntington Beach and S. R. Bowen against the issuance of a 1938 on sale beer license to H. B. Carr, 214 - 5th Street and advise the Board that the City Council was agreeable to withdraw its • complaint in the event H. B. Carr withdrew his application for license. Option - The Clerk read an option of the Mills Land and Water Company offering Beach frontage for sale to the City of Huntington Beach a strip of beach frontage ap- • 'proximately 1610.4 feet long situated in the City of Huntington Beach near the easterly limits. The consideration of said option being $400.00 which sum applies upon the purchase price of $85,000.00, whereupon the • following motion was made by Councilman Henrickson: "That the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach accept said option of the Mills Land and Water Company". IVlotion seconded by Councilman Morehouse, put • and carried unanimously. Option - The Clerk read an option of the Mills Land and Water Company Acreage offering for sale to the City of Huntington Beach a certain piece of • acreage located within the City of Huntington Beach near its easterly boundary line in consideration of $100.00 to be applied as an option on the purchase price amounting to $25,000.00. Whereupon the following • motion was made by Councilman Chamness: "That the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach accept the option of the Mills Land and Water Company". Motion seconded by Councilman Henrickson, put and carried unanimously. Sign at Five Engineer Overmyer informed the Council that he had investigated Points prices for the erection of an eight foot sign at Five Points and that ` same would cost approximately $175.00 plus installation charge of $55.00, also that he had been informed that the State Highway Commission would allow a uniform type of sign to be erected on the right-of-way at " a total cost of $116.50, same to be a Neon sign installed and lighted. The matter was taken under advisement until the next meeting of the City Council. _ • Resolution 0792 The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 792, a resolution of the City Council of the,City of Huntington Beach, California, deter- a Page 2 - Minutes Feb. 28, 1938 157. mining and declaring that the public interest and necessity demands the acquisition, construction and completion within the City of Huntington Beach, California, of a certain municipal improvement and, on motion by Councilman Chamness seconded by Councilman Henrickson, Resolution No. 792 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, Warner. NOES: Councilmen - None. ABSENT: Councilmen Talbert. Change order Councilman Chamness informed the Council that a new change necessary order should be prepared covering the installation of one window on • -- the first story of the pavilion for lightinCD g purposes and six windows on the upper story for ventilating purposes. The estimated cost as submitted by the contractor being approximately $467.00 and, d on motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the matter was referred d� to the Beach and Pier Committee to confer with the Engineer and Architects with power to act. Motion put and carried unanimously. Fishing The matter of a contract with John H. Ganes to operate live boats bait fishing boats off the pier was deferred until March 7th. r Emblem light- On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the American Memo.Hall Legion was granted permission and the City Engineer directed to install an emblem light at the front of the Memorial Hall. The matter of additional exit lights in Memorial Hall to accommodate the Legion quarters was referred to the City Engineer. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the Council adjourned until 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 2, 1938.
