Councilmen present: Morehouse,Chamness,Henrickson,Talbert,Warner. Councilmen absent: None. The application of Mrs. Iola Robinson to operate grocery store at municipal trailer camp was referred to the Beach and Pier committee. kpplication On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the application of Mary E. Shinn to operate cafe at 112 - 18th Street was approved. Ieo. F. Staat The Clerk read a letter from George F. Staat, Principal Pasadena City Schools relative to the care of the City's property on the beach front. On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson the Clerk was directed to reply to the letter and return Mr. Staat's ,$1.00 donation. Henn M. Schafer The Clerk read a letter from Glenn M. Schafer relative to his appointment as supervisor on the beach front during the summer of 1938. The letter was ordered filed. ita.te Oil permits The Clerk read a letter from the Board of Harbor Commission of Long Beach calling attention to proposed legislation covering state oil permits and recommending that the City Council protest the bill through its senator and assemblyman. Action was deferred untie the meeting of the Council March 7th. 'alm trees on On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, Mr. De Britton beach front of the Chamber of Commerce was authorized to plant Palm trees on the beach front as an experiment under the directions of the Beach and Pier Committee. 'lowering Eucalyptus The Clerk read a letter from Richard NI. Beeson proposing to )n Main St. plant flowering eucalyptus trees along Main Street from Palm Avenue to the city limits, approximately 173 trees placed 25 feet apart at a cost of $380.60. Also a letter from the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce recommending that the City either doh the work themselves or have same done under contract. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee and the Parks and Play -ground committee to in- vestigate and submit their recommendations to the City Council. )rd. #408 - 'irst reading The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 408 its first reading, calling and providing for the holding of an election for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City of Huntington Beach 6 • I- 0 • • 1 1 0 Page 2 - Minutes March 2, 1938 159 4 1 • C f 1 .1 It the proposition of incurring a bonded indebtedness for the ac- quisition, construction and completion of a public park and play- ground within the City.
