MINUTES
City Hall, Monday, March 7th, 1938
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P.M. by Mayor Warner.
Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, Henrickson, darner.
Councilmen absent: None.
Minutes On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, minutes for the
month of February were approved as read.
Neon sign On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the application of
Eva Matthews for permit to install Neon sign by the Frye Sign Company
was held up pending repair of damage to the park -way made by the
contractor.
Change Order The Clerk read Change Order No. 2, making certain changes in the •

electrical wiring and lighting of the beach pavilion and, on motion by
Chamness seconded by kenrickson, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized
to sign Change Order No. 2 on behalf of the City.
Bids - Gasoline This being the date set for opening and examining bids for furnish-
ing the City with gasoline for the year beginning March 8th, 1938 and
ending March 7th, 1939, the Clerk opened and read the following bids:
The St. Helens Petroleum Company of Pico, California, 12d, per gallon.
General Petroleum Company of Los Angeles,California, 12.4V per gallon.
The Texas Company of Los Angeles, California, 12� per gallon.
iUnion Oil Company of California, Los Angeles, 12.49� per gallon. •
The Petrol Corporation of Los Angeles, California 12� per gallon.
Shell Oil Company of dos Angeles, California, 12.44 per gallon.
Standard Oil Company of Huntington Beach, California, 12.7V per gallon.
Bids were taken under consideration until later in the evening.
Baseball The Clerk read a letter from Joe Rodgers, Manager of the Huntington
Club
Beach Nite Baseball Association, agreeing to furnish light poles and
asking the City to furnish two additional lights on the baseball grounds.

The matter was referred to the City Engineer to check up on type of lights
to be installed and the consideration of installation and report at next
meeting of the City Council.
Monthly reports On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, monthly reports of the
City Treasurer, City Clerk, City Judge, Chief of Police, Superintendent of
Streets and City Collector were approved and ordered filed.
Tables for On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was

authorized and directed to construct four new tables for Memorial Hall.
J. R. Covington On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the City Attorney
was authorized to start action against J. R. Covington to collect damages
on account of an accident to one of the City owned cars.
Recess At this time, 8:20 P.M., the Mayor declared a recess.
Council again called to order at 8:55 P.M. All members of the Council
present.

Rosa F.
Griffith
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the claim of Rosa

F Griffith for damages on account of widening of Hampshire Avenue were
referred to the State Highway Commission.
Gasoline contract On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the Union Oil Company
awarded to Union
011 Co.
was awarded the contract for furnishing the City with gasoline at their
bid of 12.49�, per gallon maximum for the year beginning March 8th, 1938
and ending March 7th, 1939 and all other bids were rejected.
Signs
Engineer Overmyer stated that a regulation Neon sign to be placed
at Five Points directing traffic over Main Street was recommended by the
Chamber of Commerce and that a reflector type sign, five inch lights,

could be installed at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Hampshire
Avenue at a cost of $46.80 and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson,
the matter was taken under advisement until next meeting of the City Council.
Damage to Engineer Overmyer reported to the City Council that insofar as he
sewage plant by
flood
was able to determine up to the present time considerable damage had been
done to the city sewage plant but that it would be some days before a
`
thorough investigation could be made. Mayor Warner informed the Council that
he had contacted Robbins -Henderson, insurance agents for the Atlas Assurance
Company, Ltd., policy I.M. 188059, covering -the sewage treatment plant and
that the agents had promised to make an investigation of the plant to
determine damages as soon as possible.
Slow signs Mr. F. E. Bundy addressed the City Council and advised that slow
recommended by
Mr. Bundy; signs be placed on all of the leading streets of the City in order to avoid
accidents. The matter was referred to the Chief of Police for his
recommendation.
