HomeMy WebLinkAbout1938-03-1416fj 0 MINUTES City Hall, Monday, March 14, 1938 Pursuant to adjournment of March 9th, 1938, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Warner. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, Warner. Councilmen absent: Chamness. Lights - The Clerk read an estimate by Engineer Overmyer covering additional „ Baseball Pk. lights for the baseball park. The estimate stated that the baseball commission required eight additional lights,at,$j5-.)00 each plus labor and wiring, total estimate $145.00, the baseball commission furnishing the poles. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the Council appropriated the sum of $145.00 for lights to be installed by the City Y--i Engineering Department. Burris heater On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the application of the Tower Petroleum Company to install Burris heater for oil cleaning on Lots 15 and 17, Block 115, was approved. Adv. space The Clerk read a letter from the Orange Daily News asking the City to appropriate the sum of $64.68 for advertising space on account of the Golden Jubilee anniversary May 2d and 3rd at Orange. The com- munication was ordered filed. Tax Delinquent The Clerk read a -,letter from C. W. Hyde offering his services to lots the City in connection with the redemption of tax delinquent lots. Attorney Overacker suggested an ordinance be passed setting up the procedure for sale of tax delinquent lots before sales be made. Mr. Hyde's letter was taken under advisement. Application On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the application approved for license to operate hotel at 2152 Main Street by Mrs. Dora E. Martin was approved. Ord.#410 At this time the Clerk gave Ordinance No. 410 its first reading. First reading Said ordinance being an ordinance of the City of Huntington Beach relating to and regulating signs over sidewalks within the City of Huntington Beach. Trees along Mayor Warner informed the Council that he had investigated the Main St. proposition of planting new'trees and suggested that the planting on Main Street not go beyond Mansion Avenue and to extend from Mansion Avenue to Palm Avenue, also that planting be done on Frankfort between Delaware and Alabama. Mayor Warner recommended that Mr. • Beeson be paid $2.20 per tree'for the planting of trees on Main Street and that the City Engineer plant the trees on Frankfort Street and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Engineer was authorized to employ Mr. Beeson to set out trees on 6= Page 2 - Minutes March 14, 1938. Main Street under the supervision of the Park Committee and the City Engineer and the City Engineer was. authorized to • plant trees on Frankfort Street between Alabama and Delaware under direction of the Park Committee. Replace Palms At the suggestion of Mayor Warner and on motion by More- house seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer was directed to replace Palms where needed between First and Tenth Streets along Ocean Avenue. On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the Council adjourned until 7:30 P.M., Monday, March 28th, 1938.
