Vb ATT May ity Clerk MINUTES City Hall, Thursday, May 26, 1939. Pursuant to adjournment of May 25th, 1938, the City Council met and was called to order at 3:00 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, McCallen. Councilmen absent: Talbert. Change Order 06 6 The Clerk presented and read Change Order No. Beach Pavilion and Civic Auditorium, Docket Calif. 1167-DS, dated May 25, 1938 and, on motion by Councilman Henrickson seconded by Councilman Chamness, Change Order No. 6 was approved and accepted. Motion put and carried unanimously. Adv. Mr. J. Ray Brown of the Arizonai:Republic®Phoenix Gazette addressed the Council relative to advertising during the summer season and suggest- ed a series of five inch Ads costing $2.66 per inch. The matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee and the Chamber of Commerce. Adv. Mr. Norbert Hensler of the Los Angeles Times addressed the Council relative to advertising and quoted a price of $5.17 per inch. The matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee and the Chamber of Commerce. St. Decorations Mr. Fred J. Taylor of Long Beach addressed the Council relative to decorations on account of opening of the beach pavilion. No action by • the City Council. Brunzell & The Clerk presented and read the following letter addressed to the Jacobson Mayor and City Council: 1°May 26, 1938 Honorable Mayor & Councilmen, City of Huntington Beach, Huntington Beach, California Gentlemeng 204 Page 2 e Minutes May 26, 1938. ::r s "This letter is to certify that we will install the sewer ejector motor as soon as it arrives, same having been telegraphed for today ` from San Francisco and complete this portion of the work in accordance with plans and specifications. "We will also complete the cleaning up and touching up the paint this afternoon and tomorrow. Yours very truly, (sgd) BRUNZELL & JACOBSON By: Alex Jacobson." The letter was received and ordered filed. Resolution The Clerk read Resolution No. 904 accepting the com- 0804 pleted beach pavilion and civic auditorium and, on motion by Councilman Henrickson seconded by Councilman Chamness', Reso- lution No. 804 was passed and adopted by the following vote% AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None ` ABSENT: Councilmen: Talbert. Gasoline On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the application PUMP of Rob°t Snyder to install gasoline pump at Lots 19 and 20, Block 40 1005, Vista Del Mar Tract, was approved provided the pump be Installed in accordance with a letter on file from Fire Chief Sargent and subject to the approval of the Fire Chief. a Mr. Talbert The Clerk read a letter from Councilman T. B. Talbert asking permission, on account of illness of himself, to be absent.from council meetings until July 1, 1939 and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the request was granted. Life guard station- The Clerk read a letter from James Lawshe, manager of th6 H. B. Co. Huntington Beach Company, relative to moving of a life guard station owned by the Huntington Beach Company and requesting that in the event the station is moved that a life guard be kept on duty the same as other life guard stations owned by the • City. The matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee for further consideration. Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Transfer of The City Clerk asked permission to transfer from the funds Accounts Payable the sum of $1,892.37 to the General Fund, also to transfer from the Street Improvement fund the sum of $4,463.00 to the General Fund as required by law for the maintenance and repair of streets and, Morehouse, the request on motion by was granted. Henrickson seconded by Change Orders The Clerk informed the Council that the sum of $94.16 was required in the P.W.A. Construction fund 1167-DS, on account of Change Orders and, on motion by Chamness seconded by More- house, the treasurer was directed to make the transfer. r c r 0 t i C Page 3 - Minutes May 26, 1939. � ►� i Application The application of Jack McLellan for position in the i recreation department was ordered filed. Removal of City Engineer Overmyer was authorized to notify Al Greer tree that the Council consented to the removal of a Cypress tree from his property on Tenth Street providing the work was done at his own expense. Mr. Allen Mayor McCallen informed the Council that Mr. Allen who operates a well on Main Street in the vicinity of Wesley Avenue has promised to either make connections with the City°s waste water line on or before July 1, 1938 or close down his well. Elec. light in The matter of•furnishing an electric light in the alley in alley the rear of property owned by Al Greer was referred to the City Engineer for his recommendation. Appraisal of On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, J. K. McDonald real estate was appointed to make real estate appraisal of all property within the city limits of Huntington Beach and that the cost of such service not exceed the sum of $150.00. Ord. #413 The Clerk read Ordinance No. 413, regulating the selling, dis- passed playing and distribution of fire works. This being the second and final reading, on motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, Ordinance No. 413 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Talbert. Ord. #414 m The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 414, an ordinance regulating dance passed halls, its second and final reading at this time and, on motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, Ordinance No. 414 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Henrickson, McCallen NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Talbert. Budget � Mayor McCallen called the Councilmen°s attention to the budget for the ensuing fiscal year and suggested that they get together in the near future to go over the items. On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the Council adjourned. A Ci y Clerk
