HomeMy WebLinkAbout1938-06-27MINUTES • City Hall, Monday, June 27, 1938 Pursuant to adjournment of June 22nd, 1938, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: McCallen, Morehouse, Chamness. Councilmen absent: Talbert, Henrickson. Councilman Chamness The Mayor appointed Councilman Chamness member of the Finance Com- on Finance Com. mittee pro-tem. C. of C. The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce stating that Mayor McCallen had been appointed chairman of the official reception committee during the Fourth of July celebration, assisting him would be Councilman Lee Chamness and Councilman A. W. Morehouse. H. B. Band Upon the recommendation of Councilman Morehouse, the City Council allocated the sum of $225.00 for music to be furnished by the Huntington Beach band during the celebration July 3rd and 4th; this on motion by G Chamness seconded by Morehouse, put and carried. Applications On motion by Morehouse seconded by Chamness, the applications of.Ted for sale of fireworks Bartlett and C.T. Frederick to sell fireworks during the Fourth of July • celebration were approvo.4. Bicycle rental The Clerk read application of C. H. McFarland for license to operate rental of bicycles from 125 Main Street. Councilman Morehouse stated that he believed such a permit would result in danger for children, also for drivers of automobiles. On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the permit was granted and the City Clerk was directed to issue the license. Bait & Tackle The application of Jack Merrill to sell bait and tackle from a trailer on the city streets was again referred to the Chief of Police to inform the • applicant that he must designate a location before license can be issued. Agreement - The Clerk read a lease agreement between the City of Huntington Beach Cliff L. King and Cliff L. King covering pavilion concession and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute same on behalf of the City. Library Board Mayor McCallen informed the Council that he had appointed C. P. Patton • and Mrs. Ruby Hasson to succeed themselves as members of the Library Board beginning July 1, 1938 and ending June 30th, 1941 and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the appointments were approved. Options On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, C. H. King was employed C.H.King to secure options on right-of-way property for the extension of Frankfort Street to its intersection with 5th Street, compensation for his service to be at the discretion of the City Council, motion put and carried. rAd-k Page 2 - Minutes June 27, 1938. R. R. Crossing On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the City ,b Attorney and City Engineer were authorized and directed to make application to the Railroad Commission and owners of property for a permit to extend the Acacia Street railroad crossing to include the proposed Frankfort Street cutoff or to secure an additional crossing for the Frankfort Street cut-off. Motion put and carried. Amer. Society of Composers, Authors & On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the City Clerk Publishers was authorized and directed to make application to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, 1217 Foreman Bldg., 707 So. HilllStreet, Los Angeles, for license to use copyrighted music in the beach dance pavilion, motion put and carried. Budget adopted On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 1939 to June 30th, 1939, as presented by the City Controller and heretofore examined by the members of the City Council, was adopted. Poles for PBX System On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the City Clerk was directed to write the Huntington Beach Company asking permission to erect five poles on their beach property for the purpose of install- ing a PBX telephone system for the life guards. Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
