HomeMy WebLinkAbout1938-07-11MINUTES 223 City Hall, Monday July 11, 1938 Pursuant to adjournment of July 5th, the City Council met and was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Mayor McCallen. Councilmen present: McCallen, Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert. Councilmen absent: Henrickson. Bicycle Richard Beeson addressed the Council and suggested that signs be riding in park erected in Triangle park prohibiting the riding of bicycles in the park, also that the police department endeavor to prevent bicycle riding on the beach front. The matter was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee and to the City Attorney for their recommendations. Application A PP On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the application of Chas. approved H. McFarland to transfer bicycle rental license from 125 Main Street to 208 Ocean Avenue was approved. Application On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the application of Ray Approved Dolan to operate cafe at 107 Main Street was approved. Bonds The Clerk presented and read preliminary opinion of O'Melveny Tuller and Myers approving City of Huntington Beach Municipal Park and Playground Bonds 1938. Same was ordered filed. Monthly reports The City Clerk presented and read amended monthly report of the City Clerk and City Treasurer covering funds on deposit as of June 30, 1938 and • informed the Council that the reason for the amended report was that the Street Improvement Revolving Fund had been transferred to the general fund. This was made possible on account of 1915 Act bonds having been paid in full by the City. The report was ordered filed. Contract m The Clerk read contract with the Southern California Telephone Company Telephone Co. covering rental of a private line, Huntington Beach to the Sheriff's office, Santa Ana, at a cost of $5.00 for installation and $56.50 per month and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the Mayor and City Clerk were &utho- rized to execute same on behalf of the City, it being understood that the Chief of Police is to receive a contract from the County whereby the County agrees to pay one-half of the monthly charge. Trailer on The Clerk read a. letter from James S. Lawshe relative to a trailer Ocean Ave. • now being parked on Ocean Avenue near the westerly city limits. The chair instructed the clerk to write Mr. Lawshe and state that action had been taken to have the Police Department remove the trailer from Ocean Avenue in the near future. Lee Mann. The Clerk presented and read resignation of Lee Mann, manager of the resigns beach dance pavilion effective three days from and after July llth, 1938 and, on motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, the resignation was accepted. Y Music . Councilman Chamness stated that he was endeavoring to make arrangements for music at the dance pavilion and would report later to the City Council. r224 ry Page 2 - Minutes July 11, 1938. The Mayor appointed Councilman Talbert on the Finance • Committee. Demands On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. Resolution #807 The Clerk read Resolution No. 807 making certain changes on the payroll of the street department and,,on motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, Resolution No. 807 was passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, McCallen. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: Henriekson. Delinquent licenses AttorneyOveracker reported to the Council p progress made in Y the collection of delinquent city licenses. Floor - dance hall Councilman Chamness informed the Council that the contractor ' was taking steps to correct the dance hall floor condition but ad- vised that check for final payment to Brunzell and Jacobson be held up until released by the Beach and Pier Committee and the City Engineer. Frankfort St. extension Mayor McCallen informed the Council that he had taken up the matter of Frankfort Street crossing across the Pacific Electric railway and had been assured that the crossing would be allowed when asked for formally by the City Council. Vacation - C.R.Furr On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, City Clerk C.R.Furr was granted two weeks vacation beginning July 15th, 1938. • City Adv. Engineer Overmyer submitted sketch for g y proposed city advertis- ing sign by Foster and Kleiser. He was directed to get a detailed sketch and submit same to the Beach and Pier Committee for their approval. Waste water line- On motion by Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the Chief of Police Allen was authorized and directed to notify H.R.Allen, Secretary, Western Sea- board Petroleum Company; operator of oil wells located on Lots 1 and 2. • Block 1014 and Lots 3 and 5, Block 1704, Tract 51, to the effect that a waste water line running from the above named wells must be connected with the City's storm drain line on or before 7:30 P.M., July 18, 1938, and if not done to the satisfaction of the City Engineer, the matter will then be referred to the City Attorney to start immediate action against the responsible parties.
