Pursuant to adjournment of August 1, 1938, the City Council
met and was called to order at 3:00 P.M. by Mayor McCallen.
Councilmen. present: Morehouse, Chamness, Talbert, McCallen.
Councilmen absents Henrickson.
The Mayor appointed Councilman Talbert on the Finance Committee.
The following motion by Councilman Chamness: "That the City
pay to Brunzell and Jacobson the sum of $5,552.12, same being
balance due on contract for construction of the beach pavilion and
civic auditorium." Motion seconded by Councilman Talbert, put and
carried unanimously.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the matter -of re-
quiring Brunzell and Jacobson to post $200.00 bond was rescinded
and the City Clerk directed to hold up payment of $160.0O:due them
for work on the dance floor until a guarantee is furnished the City
by the contractors.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, demands approved
by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
Sewage Plant
On motion by Chamness seconded by Talbert, the City Clerk was
directed to file Official Declaration of Entrance of Sewage Treat-
ment Plant in Competition For the Award for the Year 1939, with the
California Sewage Works Association.

Resolution #811
The Clerk presented and read Resolution No. 811, setting the

salaries of certain employees and on motion by Talbert seconded by
Chamness, Resolution No. 811 was passed and adopted by the following
vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Morehouse, Talbert, Chamness, McCallen.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: Henrickson.
Surety bond On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the surety bond of

H. Sanderson and H. M. Mylar was approved.
Memorial On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, the City Clerk was

directed to inform Miss Burke by letter to the effect that she cannot
use Memorial -Hall for private dancing classes -after the expiration of
30 days from date of the notice. The reason being that there are
numerous calls by citizens of Huntington Beach for use of the hall

and who have in the past been inconvenienced on account of
the hall being taken for private classes.

Slow signs
At the suggestion of Councilman Morehouse and on
motion by him the Chief of Police was directed to have
crossing stripes painted on four sides of the intersection

of Walnut and=5th also slow signs painted on streets
leading to .the above --named intersection.;.. Motion seconded
by Councilman Talbert, put and carried.
Street light
Chief of Police Grant stated that Mrs. Cora Craig
wished to have installed street light on llth street in -
front of her property. The matter was referred to the city

engineer to investigate and report at.next meeting.
Extension of
The Clerk read application to the Railroad Commission
5th St.
for permission to construct crossing across the Pacific
i
Electric tracks where the proposed extension of 5th Street
to Frankfort Street is to be constructed and, on motion by

Talbert seconded by Morehouse, the city engineer was directed
to prepare and enter on the application the proper description
and that .the Mayor be authorized to execute the application.
Hartford St.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness; the City
crossing
Engineer was directed to confer with the City Attorney and

have prepared an application.for crossing at the Pacific
Electric tracks across Hartford Street; that the Mayor be
authorized to execute same.
New fire hall
Councilman Talbert suggested that perhaps it would be
best to locate the new fire hall on the same block with the
_
City Hall. Matter was referred to Talbert and Morehouse for

further recommendations.

Ticket office
Councilman Talbert suggested that it would be a good

plan for the Pacific Electric to operate its ticket office

from the Huntington Beach Company pavilion in the event the
present depot is removed.
Vacation o
On motion by Talbert seconded by Chamness, Engineer

Overmyer was granted a vacation, August 20th to 27th, inclusive.
Auto park On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse, Wm. Heller
was granted permission to -receive a license from the City to
operate an auto park near the intersection of 3rd and Walnut
provided entrance to the park be from the alley at the rear.
On motion by Chamness seconded by Morehouse,.Council
adjourned until 7:30 P.M., Monday August , 1
