LPursuant to adjournment of September 16th, the Council met and
was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor McCallen:
Councilmen present: Morehouse, Talbert, Henrickson, McCallen.
Councilmen absent: Chamness.
Crossing The Clerk read a telegram from the California Railroad Commission
as follows: "Crossing of Frankfort and Hartford Streets across Pacific
� Electric railway tracks granted today.01 The telegram was ordered filed.

Contract On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the Clerk was
renewed -
Buxton sign directed to write a letter to Buxton Neon Signs and Displays, Long Beach,
and renew contract for the ensuing year at the rate of $6.00 per month.
Municipal pier- The Clerk read estimate from City Engineer Overmyer in which he
repairs
recommended that immediate repairs be made to the municipal pier by the
Gunite method, cost of which would be approximately $485.00 and, on
motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the city engineer was instruct-
ed to proceed with the work as outlined in his letter.
Band The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce also one from
the Huntington Beach band recommending that the band be sent to Anaheim,
Friday evening, October 28th to take part in the Merchants' Association
parade at a cost of $125.00. The matter was referred to Councilman
Morehouse for his recommendation.
W.W.Rohrig The Clerk read a letter from W. W. Rohrig, R#1, Box 32, Huntington
Beach, asking for an offer to purchase house on Alabama Avenue as soon
as same is acquired by the city. The letter was ordered filed.
Parking The matter of regulating parking along Main Street was deferred.
Demands On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, demands approved by the
finance committee were ordered paid.
Ord. #417 - The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 417, an ordinance of the City Council of
first reading

On motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer and
City Clerk were directed to examine options on property to be acquired
for the Frankfort Street cut-off and see that descriptions check with
the city's requirements.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Talbert, the City Attorney and
City Clerk were authorized to draft the necessary escrow instructions
also the necessary resolution and submit to the Council September 26th
relative to the purchase of property for the Frankfort Street cut-off.
Fishing barge - Mayor McCallen stated that Mr. Wilson, owner of the fishing barge,
Mr. Wilson
had informed him that the barge would be moved within the three mile
limit of the city shortly and would probably be used for fishing all
winter.

Benches for pier F. E. Bundy addressed the Council and recommended that
benches be placed along the municipal pier. The matter was
referred to Councilman Talbert to recommend the number and
kind of benches needed.
Parking on Mr.'Ausing addressed the Council and stated that automo-

to the inconvenience of visitors and citizens. The matter was

referred to the Chief of Police and the police and fire committee
to investigate and submit their recommendations.
Councilman Talbert stated that he and the Chief of Police
had contacted Arch Dixon relative to his furnishing ambulance
service and that Mr. Dixon had stated that he preferred not to
handle the business. Councilman Talbert stated Mr. Dixon was
willing to sell the city his Terraplane ambulance for $850.00
and that he had contacted the County and they did not care to
handle the business in the beach area. Matter was referred to
the Chief of Police and Councilman Talbert to investigate further.
Councilman Morehouse stated that Mrs. John Parker had offered
to present the city with an Oleander and other trees for moving
to the city parks and, on motion by Talbert seconded by Henrick-
son, the Council accepted the offer and the city gardener,under the
direction of Councilman Morehouse, was authorized to transplant
the trees in Lake Park at the proper time.
Councilman Henrickson called attention of the Council to the
condition of the Santa Ana sewer project and stated that improve-
ment was moving very slowly. Mayor McCallen stated that he and
State Engineer Gillespie and Dr. Sutherland had made a trip along
the line and that he had been assured that within two weeks the
line would be in operation.
Mayor McCallen informed the Council that the State of Calif-
ornia had awarded lease to the Southwest Exploration Company
for slant drilling along Ocean Avenue.
On motion by Henrickson seconded by Morehouse, the Council
adjourned until 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, September 20, 1938.
