HomeMy WebLinkAbout1938-10-1726­1 i MINUTES i City Hall, Huntington Beach, California Monday, October 17th, 1938 �I Pursuant*to adjournment of October 14th, the City Council met and ! was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor pro tem Morehouse. Councilmen present: Morehouse, Chamness; Talbert, Henrickson. Councilmen absent: McCa.11en. Finance Com. The Mayor appointed Councilmen Chamness and Talbert on the Finance Committee. C.of C. Letter The Clerk read a letter from Chamber of Commerce President Dr. L.F. re slant drilling Whittaker, expressing confidence in the City Council in handling the matter of slant drilling into the tide lands by the Southwest Exploration Company.' Letter ordered filed. G Telephone line The Clerk read a letter of the Associated Telephone Company asking -, 23rd St. for permission to erect pole line at 23rd and Ocean Avenue. On motion by Henrickson I seconded by Chamness the request was granted. r P E Lease The Clerk read renewal of lease P.E.Railway of a 22 ft strip to be Parking strip lst to used for auto parking purposes between 1st Street and Main Street and, on Main motion by Talbert seconded by Henrickson, same was accepted and the Mayor and Clerk authorized to sign the lease. Girl Scouts The Clerk read a letter from Mrs. Adah Kirkpatrick asking permission to I ' juse the Memorial Hall Men's Committee room beginning October 19th as follows: 3:30 to 5:00 P.M. each Wednesday afternoon, 3:30 to 5:00 P.M. each Monday afternoon and 6:30 to.8:00 P.M. each Monday evening until a new building is erected for the Girl Scouts. Also permission to use the Memorial Hall for c card party Friday evening October 28th without charge, and on motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the Clerk was directed to write Mrs. Kirk- patrick to the effect that the Council cannot reserve the Hall or Committee Room for a number of regular days or nights in advance, but that applications will have to be made weekly subject to former engagements by others. That the Girl Scouts may use the Memorial.Hall, Friday evening October 28th for card party with all charges cancelled. Demands On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. At this time, 8:00 P.M., Councilman Talbert asked and was given i permission to be excused. I $50.00 for On motion by Henrickson seconded by Chamness, the sum of $50.00 was C.of C.f loat Anaheim allocated to cover cost of float to be entered October 28th at the Anaheim parade. Air -mark on Mr. H. W. Hartley addressed the council on behalf of the Chamber of j pier Commerce relative to marking the sign HUNTINGTON BEACH on the floor of the Municipal pier for use of air lines and advertising purposes. The cost to be approximately $35.00 for paint to the City, and the painting to be done by W.P.A. at the request of Miss O'Donnell of Long Beach. Water for Main St. On motion by Chamness seconded by Henrickson, the City Engineer Parking was authorized to order service and meter together with 211 stand pipe installed in center parking Main Street at loth.
